Indeed the same could be said for Aperture. Apple was first to the market with an application that was strong in DAM capability and added some non-destructive editing capabilities. They sat on this, and adobe released and then updated Lightroom. Now Lightroom appears to be the industry standard. Even with version 3.0 of aperture, apple seems to be a bit slow in updating this puppy.

The same reason why you can't hire 9 woman to make a baby in one month. More hands does equate to faster work. Apple has set itself up so that it works like a start up, in that they have incredibly small teams and in some cases a single developer writing the code. This has worked very well for them and adding more developers will actually hamper their effort. Not to say there's no room for improvement, but its a balancing act.

I get that they try and keep talented people only working on the software (but apparently they let the retarded step child design iTune's UI for the past few years.) But seriously they have to have more available talent who wants to work for them.

That person spends the reminder of time working on iTunes. Well, after Ping, of course, which just happens to be in iTunes but that's where similarities end.

Plus there's the fact Apple practically ceded the compositing market to Nuke.
For Logic, that's simply not true, as mentioned above.
Logic 9.1.2 just came out three days ago, with a half-ton of bug fixes, including the first much-needed improvement to multi-core usage. They're halfway there, so 9.1.3 must be in the works for the near future. They're working hard.
