how does the mac pro's 7300 compare to a PC's 6600GT, I ask because it's the video card in my gaming rig at the moment, and I am looking into replacing it...

nVIDIA Geforce 7900 7800 7600 7300 6600 6800 GT GTX ATi Radeon x850 x1900 x1800 1600 1300 XT Pro - Guru of 3D: PC Hardware Reviews have test as has anandtech.com. The 7300 is a budget card, better than integrated graphics but not a "real" gaming card. The 6600GT may be a older card but it seems to be faster than the 7300. Read the test and look into you wallet how much you are willing to spend on speed

I use a plain vanilla 6600/256 in my gaming PC and are very happy with the results in 1280x1024, Quake 3, Unreal 2 HL-2 etc. When I get a 1600x1200 monitor I might think otherwise...

wow, it was very late when I wrote that...

I already have a 6600GT in my gaming PC... I am looking into getting a mac pro so I can replace my PC that I rarely use...

I guess you answered my question though, the 6600GT is faster/better then the 7300 in the mac pro... maybe I will spring for the 1900xt...

IMO the 7300 is a poor choice, because graphics apps and the OS will be accessing core graphics more as time goes on. However it can be upgraded in the future to X1950XTX or whatever, so buying a box with a 7300 is not a permanent bottleneck.

The 7300GT is a cut down 7600GT... the GT version is quite a bit faster than the base 7300.

Here's some new tests pitting the Mac Pro's 7300GT against a G5 Quad's 7800GT and 'vanilla' 6600. I'd imagine the 6600GT would fare better than the regular one, but the 7300GT does quite well against it. The 7800GT is another story, but that was expected.

Bring on the X1900XT!
