I didn't see any blatant product placement. Then again I wasn't studying and ANALyzing the movie.
Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

ghporter/smacintush:

Well, it is there, and when the products are flashed, it diverts attention away from the mythical gotham and back into reality, derailing the movie experience.

Also, yes... I know it is based on a comic... but that does not mean it has look and sound like all other hollywood trash. When compared to the Batman with Michael Keaton, it pales quick noticeably.

Most banks I have been to in the US use Dell monitors at the least. Also, isn't Nokia the leading handset maker? If not the leading, it is up there, no? I wouldn't necessarily say product placement so much as realism.

The only thing imo which vaguely resembled advertizing was the huge canon logo on top a building in HK/China , apart from that nothing really caught my eye, unless you count Lamborginis and MAC trucks.

Yeah, those didn't strike me as unusual. I see those things "product-placed" in people's hands all the time IRL.

Ok lets not get into a pedantic discussion of whether or not products were placed in the movie: they were. Watch it again to see the products. My point is it takes away from the movie experience. Star Trek always did a great job of innovating their own stuff, and I especially liked the large Tablet PC they had in a meeting once.

How is a sci-fi outer space series germane? Star Trek was set in the 23rd and 24th centuries. Batman is set in the present day.

If you spent time watching for product placement (OMG, they're using a Lambo, I must get one!!!!) and not enjoying the movie, then you should have stayed in line for Mama Mia!

That is all.

Sigh... Batman is set in mythical Gotham... an unreal world, just like Star Trek is in an unreal world. Thus, it is not set in present day. Come on, this is getting ridiculous.

The world of "Gotham City" is supposed to be very similar to our own. Star Trek isn't.

To me, it would be eerie if this type of movie didn't have Dell monitors, iPods, and billboards. These are things I see every day, and they make the movie more realistic.

I don't care if you liked DK or not, but to say it "sucked" is ludicrous, and places you in the extreme minority (for obvious reasons).

been 4 times so far; twice in IMAX, once in a regular theater, and once at a drive-in. This film has been an awesome experience, and just what the industry needed.

I've seen it twice so far. The first time on a digital projection screen and today in IMAX which sucked because I stuck in the second row. My neck was killing me after two and a half hours.

A site called "the dark knight sucks", explains why it sucks...

http://thedarkknightsucks.com/about/

And I feel like he does, from his about page:

If you haven’t already figured out, this site is focused on explaining why the movie “The Dark Knight” (2008) sucks. Part of the reason for putting this site together was to counter the seemingly unquestionable hype surrounding the movie. The viral marketing campaigns, the massive buildup, the fanboys… all leading so many movie-goers to pause critical reasoning and tout the movie as some kind of masterpiece. Further, whenever a dissenting voice is heard to even question such blind praise, it’s as if a blasphemy has been uttered.
Each article posted here will point out a specific problem with the movie. Suggestions for additional articles can be submitted to the suggestions page.

I particularly agree with this that the author says:

The movie itself has way too many long and boring passages. I can’t imagine anyone who’d buy a DVD watching it without a remote control in their hands. Never ending, boring scenes that take away from any potential excitement you may have accumulated during some potentially exciting minute.

You don't need to validate your opinions by appealing to others'. You are justified in hating this movie for whatever reason you like.

Liv Tyler's boring and pathetic excuse for acting nearly ruined The Incredible Hulk for me.

Event Horizon was awesome. It was one of the first movies I got on DVD. Frame-by-frame the torture scenes, puts Hellbound to shame (well, for 10 seconds anyway.)

I'm pretty sure that the guy running that website might be one of those 'critics' that hates all movies. If a movie was 100% realistic it'd be pretty boring.

This is a great film, I watched as a comic book fan and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I thought Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker was unbelievably realistic and was helped greatly by a brilliant script, finding out that some of his performance were spontaneous on set and that he locked himself in his hotel room for a month before shooting only shows further why this performance was of such quality.

All other Actors performed well and I thought the action scenes in particular were impressive.

The script was the main problem I had with the film, whilst I loved the Jokers lines, his behavior, the events surrounding him and his magic trick; I felt that the inclusion of two-face as a 2nd villain was unnecessary. Whilst his character coincided with the main storyline I felt that the switch of his character was sudden and abrupt after such an injury, his recovery was way too fast and focusing on two face in the latter stages of the film brought mediocracy to a great final hour of brilliance with Batman and the Joker. I would have preferred that a greater focus was placed on Jokers individual plans/relationship with his hoodlums/insanity was of greater scope as I felt myself wishing for more of his performance at the end of the film.

Ultimately I would have much preferred two face as the villain in the third movie and for him to remain as a great hope for Gotham throughout The Dark Knight.

Despite this, however, the script was brilliant and for a film with so much scope I think the director did an excellent job and produced a top 5 film of the 00's (imo).

---

Just thought i'd drop my thoughts, you all seem quite knowledgeable

Hey, if somebody doesn't like it, they don't like it. There's no accounting for taste either way.

Yep, they're all like that. They planned on panning the film to get hits.

/yawn

I especially liked the guy who said it "sucked" but went and watched it 8 times.

Bottom line: the movie didn't suck, some people simply have poor taste (or they're attention whores).

The one exception I can think of was the Batman Beyond cartoon which takes places in the future for obvious reasons. Anyway, this Batman was no different.
