really? I would've gone with Malibu as a name. But they're using parks and mountains - so I am out of ideas.
Can anyone recommend a better name than El Capitan?

They just called the App Store bigger than the Industrial Revolution, and NDT called it bigger than the invention of the microscope.

I swear, Apple have lost their freaking minds.

I didn't know what this thread was about. But obvious OS X K2 is in our future.

Only positive points were multitasking on iPad (looks great, actually) and the pricing structure on Apple Music.

Oh, and Android? Shocker.

Apparently Apple is big into recycling. El Capitan is the PowerMac case design introduced with the Yosemite blue & white G3.

The following OS X version will be called Sawtooth.

I didn't use multitasking on my old Android because the screen was too small - but now with a iPad I can see this feature being useful. The hours I've wasted bouncing back and forth...

The biggest question for me is whether iOS will continue to pause my videos when I pull open the quick settings drawer from the bottom.

My iPad (2, admittedly...) can't handle more than one Safari tab open at a time, I can't imagine trying to do multiple applications at a time. After Apple's promised iPad 2-specific performance improvements to one of the iOS 8 updates, I took the leap (again) but have been regretting it, time to go back to iOS 7 (again).

Also I'm totally over seeing a non-functional screenshot of what the app displayed the last time it was open, and having to look at that screenshot and tap fruitlessly for 5-8 seconds until the app actually loads and the screen totally changes. Just show me a blank screen.

That sucks... have you tried wiping the iPad clean and starting over? That doesn't right that you can't even use Safari properly.

I read the name as another "refinement" OS, like SL or ML, El Capitan being perhaps the most recognizable feature of Yosemite.

Curious to see exactly what Apple means when they say that Core Animation runs on Metal for Mac. Is it only Vulkan, or some variant thereof, or will Apple truly support a new low-level graphics API across three GPU manufacturers?

No, no new iMacs, but that was expected - there is nothing to update them to, and by all signs, Skylake isn't too far off. The one model Apple really ought to update now is the Mac Pro, but maybe they're waiting off for Fiji.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Split screen multitasking is iPad Air 2 only - but it is curious that iOS 8 runs worse than iOS 7 for you. My experience is the opposite, with even 8.0 being better than the last 7.x on an iPad mini. I did do a full reset before my upgrade, however.

Yep.

However, if it does work close to how it did on the demo, then I'm happy about it.

El Capitan to Yosemite is akin to Mountain Lion to Lion. Both are mere refreshes and optimization to the previous version. That is why there are similarities to the name.

Very looking forward to the split screen aspects of El Capitan and can't wait to get the multitasking aspects of the iPad along with the touchpad capabilities of it. The new Safari is pretty nice also!

The real story here is 50 Gallons of Lube-Gate.

Apple removes '50 gallon drum of lube' from WWDC keynote image | The Verge

I noticed it's absence as soon as I saw the list. They need to have a better sense of humor about this stuff, although, I guess it's to be expected.

And this is picking nits, but as super generous as it is to give all of these multimillionaire baseball players their requested apple doodads, they could have also said that they were also donating the exact same list of stuff to a local school or something. Would have been a nice touch.

And yes, I'm aware that Apple already donates tons of hardware to all sorts of worthy causes... but seeing as this was a PR move anyway, it may have been a better PR move to announce it during the baseball player thing.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

That's a lot of lube. Does it even come in industrial quantities? lol

but I think it was a weak move to change the image.
