My favorite episode of Lost in Space is the talking carrots. Anyone else?

Trying to see if the title changes

My is Arena. The monster battle was hilarious for me when I watched it as a kid and I still kinda like it. It captures what star trek is all about. Another great episode was Galileo Seven.

Ya - the Arena is a classic. Gorn the Lethargic lol.

My favorite is Assignment Earth, the one where Teri Garr plays a secretary in 1968 Earth. Great episode imo.

"Assignment Earth" was a "backdoor pilot" that didn't get picked up by NBC.

Assignment Earth was a backdoor pilot in case Star Trek wasn't renewed for Season 3. But ST did get renewed, with a budget cut. Gene Roddenberry was unavailable, so the pilot became moot. If ST hadn't been renewed, AE might have gone to series. And we'd finally learn more about the cat. Did anyone hear if the series bible has been released?

My fav has wandered around. I guess it's AE today. But I'm overdue for a TOS marathon.

I'm unfortunately new-school, and my faves are either "Yesterday's Enterprise" or "The One Where Q Is Human".

I thought this was about TOS notwithstanding the LOS carrots ref. Remember to eat your carrots while watching Star Trek - they're good for your eyes.

Both.

Incredibly stupid and almost entirely scientifically illiterate premise. Great show with outstanding effects, particularly the model work and many thoughtful (apart from the science) episodes.

Honestly can I mention the bad science again. It had essentially zero internal consistency regarding the physics of its universe.

Got to love the Eagle transporters though. Brilliant designs.

I really loved that show, and I was very sad when they canceled it. Just recently, I re-watched some episodes, and thought it had aged really well. I heard from other people that the depiction of military life is quite accurate, although I wouldn't be able to tell. It has some really, really great episodes that deal with things from hunger/starvation, scheming politicians, corporations meddling into politics, discrimination, torture and making the right moral choices in difficult situations. (When I list these issues, it sounds cheesy, but I never thought it was.) All characters had a backstory that was explored, and weren't just Starfleet-type good guys who can work for 24 hours, but still keep their hair and uniform in perfect order. There is a darkness to the show where e. g. characters may have a secret that haunts them or the wrong person wins the struggle not just in spite of, but because of the “good guys” did the right thing.

As far as complaints about the physics goes, yes, it's a scifi show that takes copious amounts of liberty, but it never bothered me, because the show never claimed to be accurate in that respect. Plus, I don't think technology was ever used as the magic plot device that got people out of tough spots (such as reversing the polarity of the deflector and using it to send a compression pulse … )

Highly recommended. Give it a few episodes to get into the groove, though.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I still clearly remember the one where the nasty corporate guy snuck into the alien hibernation pod but woke up too early! The last shots with the moon base crew listening to his screaming over the radio was definitely adult sci-fi. Yet it was shown mid Saturday morning here as a kids show, which no-one watched.

Thoughts on Space: 1999 - it was on at 6pm here in the NYC area on channel 11, replacing Star Trek one day a week. As a kid, I was *NOT* happy about that, but I watched it anyway and loved it. If you can check your brain about the moon being blasted out of orbit and merrily traveling along, the rest of the show is damn good. Great music, great effects, and yes, the Eagles were awesome. I was always particularly fond of "The Last Sunset" - having everything taken away from them because of human failings.

I guess we were lucky in the DC area. They ran sci-fi shows from 6-7PM on Saturday evenings. Space 1999, UFO, and even the Avengers.(John Steed & Emma Peel)

Bit too spacey for me.

Joe 90 theme is another slice of awesome. Gerry Anderson certainly new the importance of a banging theme tune. (This subject would be a great spin off thread).

(somewhat OT: off to see Captain Picard in the theatre next Saturday. He's acting with Magneto. My daughters birthday present. That and chats with the captain afterwards.
