I tried ripping a movie from dvd so that I could watch it on my iPad (via Dropbox).

All my settings were good but my MacBook jumped from 65 Celsius to 89 Celsius (149 Fahrenheit to 192).

The hottest I've ever seen on my laptop before was 85 Celsius (seemingly caused by Flash). But 89?

Is this to be expected?

(I have the latest version)

p.s. How does one type the temperature symbol (that little zero)?

Yes, it's most likely pegging the CPU at 100% while doing the conversion; which is something Flash shouldn't do.

Option + K = ˚

If the CPU gets warmer, Handbrake is working the CPU hard to encode. It's normal for an app like that to use a lot of CPU. I wouldn't worry about it.

HB has special code to warm up the CPU to improve, uh, electron mobility. It's scientific!
