7.2 mp digital camera, something for your car, new stereo, drop it, tint it. If you collect any collectables, buy something expensive in that category. Do something to your house, in wall speakers in every room. Or i know this will sound dorky, but buy something for someone else.

i know you said for yourself but you might enjoy giving something to someone for no reason. Just take care of that itch. Heh

From your sig link you're into music, so maybe get yourself an instrument if you play, or a great big stereo system/iPod if you listen. Are you big on gadgets? Does a PSP, DS, PDA, game console or something else float your boat?

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

I think travel is the best. Gives you experiences and memories, which is (I admit reluctantly) better than an iPod or a stereo or even ... well maybe not than dcmacdaddy's idea, but that can be incorporated into travel.

not all women care about money.

well, the kind of chicks whod double up on a dude like me do.

HA!

ive got a 3g 20gig ipod, and think im going to wait til the next major revision to buy a new ipod.
im not musically inclined, tho i *really* wish i was (had a few stints with an acoustic guitar, didnt work out).

id love to travel, think i might go get my passport early next week.

i was thinking about maybe getting a camcorder, or a nice digital camera. i have a couple really great friends, and i live with 3 of them. i was thinking a camcorder would be fun to record all the drunken nights, and then i could even use my powerbook for something productive and learn to tinker with video editing.

so, i think im leaning towards a camcorder, or a french bulldog puppy.

look at how cute that little dude is, and he wouldnt be quite a sissy dog, tho hed be a small dog.

You don't need a TV, CAR, or Computer.... then you should buy yourself the gift of giving. This will make you happiest. So fork over the loot.
I want to make you feel better 'spiritualy'. Amen.

<This was a bad WDLove impersonation, do not try this at home>

No, really. Send money.

I don't want to be patronizing, but have you set aside an emergency cash fund yet ?

If yes, I'd say just spending the money even though you don't really need anything is dumb. Save it, best for long-term.

Save your money, or invest it in long term stocks or CDs. Then take yourself out to dinner and a movie.

Use the money to throw a big party. Rent out a banquet room at a hotel and get a couple of kegs.

ive got an emergency cash fund, 12% per paycheck going into my 401k, and a very well-rounded stock portfolio that i manage myself. so im pretty set financially

just kinda want to buy myself something nice, get into something new. ever get that itch? to just go out and buy a piano, or whatnot? might start looking into video cameras, think that could be fun to get in to. someone around the office recommended flying lessons, might look into that. guess if worse comes to worse, i could always make it back to vegas and "donate" there

Primerica is an insurance company! Term is insurance which is for your survivors and not you.

I have a wife with two grown children and am self insured, thank you.
I was suggesting a NO LOAD, very low cost mutual fund from a highly respected company. Actually, you can withdraw your initial investment after five years with no penalty and withdrawals after 59 are with no tax on your earnings. If you really want a toy, then buy a Sony 30" CRT HDTV which according to Consumer Reports March 2005 has an excellent picture. (Pay to have someone bring it into your abode as it weighs 150 pounds which is what I did.) sam

Uhm. Primerica is both an Insurance Company and an investment company....

It's BOTH.

PFS = Primerica Financial Services and Insurance sales.

I wonder if he is... probably not, so that does him about as much good as you gloating about being self-insured...

Why on earth would one buy a 150lb CRT HDTV? I prefer a nice DLP display or even a very nice HDTV Projector. Articles listed below.

I suggested the heavy Sony because it is the only one with a rating of Excellent for both broadcast and dvd pictures. Other types and brands of displays are not so highly rated. Plasma sets have a problem with both burn-in (which they try to overcome by moving the picture around and with short life . LCDs have a viewing angle problem with groups (roommates, spouses), projectors are quite complex to install and align/realign, etc.

Self insurance means that after one has saved 12% for years, earned a pension, etc, there is enough money to not have to invest or save any more. My wife will live well if I die tomorrow though my kids may inherit a little less. Why should I buy insurance? Actually, I lied. You are now paying for my insurance (Social Security). Anyway, a single person with no family responsibility has no reason to buy insurance. By the way, never deal with an insurance/investment company or a financial advisor who gets a commission on your spending. sam

Have you saved for your retirement? Do you have debt?

Those should be priorities.

If you're in good financial shape, you could get a Realdoll.

Put $2000 into an IRA for this year - DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!

Then, with the money left over go buy yourself a really nice watch. Everytime you look at that watch remember that:

1. You got it by saving for it and working hard for it and it will inspire you to save more
2. YOU HAVE $2000 IN AN IRA FOR THE FUTURE.

$2000 invested now will become a nice big healthy chunk of change...working hard for you...FOR FREE.

Congratulations on the extra CA$H.

If you are a Republican Christian, give the money to a charity for the poor as you believe that the government should not help them. If you have elderly relatives, record their knowledge (on paper) of their ancestry including the names of all relatives and exact locations of birth. (This may be a present to yourself and your children in the future.) If you are a democrat, make a gift of time and ask your government to keep http://www.noaa.gov/ on the internet at no charge. (Rick Santorum just introduced a bill to outlaw free weather forecasts from the government.) If you want to buy a car, be sure to buy American. (And of course, buy your gift at Walmart to help the starving Chinese.) sam

Christ, does everything have to be some kind of political statement with you people?

If you don't have a passport, I'm assuming that youve never been overseas. If that's the case, you should definitely treat yourself to a trip. You won't regret it, and it'll give you memories that will last a lifetime, as well as broaden your horizons.

I'd go analog - get yourself a nice pen to write with. Spend $150 on it. You'll use it more than something electronic, and you can always admire it.

Or my favorite, take a trip to someplace you've never been before. Skip the warm climates, and go somewhere cool like Iceland.

Get your passport before the rush this fall! (There is a federal law requiring remotely read biometric identifiers that will go into effect then for new passports.) I know that central Florida is nice as I lived in Cape Canaveral for a couple of years. The UK has nice museums, shows, old castles, etc. If you go to England, buy and take several extra passport photos with you. They are used for weekly bus passes in London. http://www.lonelyplanet.com/ has excellent information for advance planning. If you drive, stay off the interstates and avoid the tourists. In the US, many towns have a roadside, local historical society. sam
