Some how the last thread I started got locked, so i'll try again...
I download and upload music and dvd's off the internet via Bit Torrent, but the site I'm using says my connection is firewalled. I'm supposed to have my bit torrent ports open (6881-6889). I tried going to system pref>sharing>firewall and opening the ports there, but I don't think that is working. I just got off the phone with someone at apple and they told me it had something to do you my service provider limiting my bandwidth (not my computer). Can anyone help me get around this? I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Kevin

I was asked if I was behind a router and I have no idea. How can I find out? I have a Time Warner high-speed connection, using wireless airport on a 15" PB, if that helps.

Uh stooge, it is getting locked because you are asking how to pirate (illegally) DVD's and Music.
Not to mention it should be in the software or networking forum.

Yes, using Airport matters.
First, look up your Mac's IP address:
Click on System Preferences.
Select Network
Double-click Airport
Select TCP/IP tab.
Read your IP address (probably something like 10.0.1.2)
If you have more than one Mac on your network, consider setting your IP manually so you don't have to keep changing the entry in Airport Admin. To do this, select Configure IPv4: Manually, then enter something like 10.0.1.201.
Next, set up port forwarding
Open Airport Admin Utility and open up your Airport base station.
Click "Show All Settings"
Select the "Port Mapping" tab.
Click "Add." Enter public port 6881, your IP address, and private port 6881.
Repeat for ports 6882-6889.
Click Update, and wait for your base station to reboot.
done.

I'm not trying to download pirated Movies and Music, dumb ass. The dvd's and music I share are made by me and my friends. I'm not doing anything illegal. Everything I get and share are allowed to be got and shared. You're out of your element.

Bittorrent is a totally legitimate way of distributing files. Alot of companies now use bittorrent to spread files (such as Blizzard, Valve, Linspire, Mandrake Linux and whatever).
It's not like he's asking for links to torrent-sites or anything.

Mithras, it worked! Thank you so much!. You were more helpful than apple care, and WAY more helpful than Disgruntled Dick-Head.
Noon, thank you. I'm glad somebody knows what's going on.

Just because all you've used bittorrent for (or all you heard it was for) is downloading copyrighted material, doesnt mean that is all everyone uses it for
so, stfu. a lot of us are bored of your useless commentary.
http://www.legaltorrents.com/ -- among others. full cds, movies, books.
