as long as they use the time to advance the plot and not create filler, hopefully it will be ok.

I think on the bright side there will be less 'filler' episodes and more solid content. The more time the producers get between seasons can often be used to make good content, less rushed.
I think it is great to know that Lost will end decisively sometime and I'm sure the final episode will be a feature length episode ending it all in some really nice way. Well, here's hoping at least!

But then they will leave some questions for a potential theatrical release. And then a another. And then...

Basically, X-Files on an island.
I have a feeling that, like X-Files, the answering of the "main" questions will only reveal to us that they weren't the main questions after all ... cue "Lost: The Movie"

I did. Age showing.
Newhart was the funniest thing in the 70s and 80s.

Unless he means Bob Newhart, I'm stumped. Google suggests Bob Hartley is a hockey coachā¦
EDIT: D'oh, that's right. Dick wakes up as Bob Hartley in the finale. I just put it together.

Yes, it's Bob Newhart. His second sitcom finallied with an episode where he wakes up at the end of the show in bed with his wife from the first sitcom he had years before. The joke was the second sitcom had all been just a dream.
It was a brilliant way to end.
Hah! your edit came in just as my post!

The French woman has an accent. Even if she left and came back she wouldn't have a french accent.
What was that ghost business all about? And how come that guy who is Ben's #2 didn't age?

"Exec producer Carlton Cuse offers this exclusive tease about the show's two-hour, sure-to-be-blockbuster season finale on May 22: "Let's just say the end of the season features a showdown between Jack and Locke ā a showdown long anticipated and a showdown with an extremely significant outcome for the future of the castaways." definitely interesting. It was good to have a ben flashback, about time. no wonder he has daddy issues.
So we know where Hurley's van came from, and who was driving it. Finally, someone in the lostaway camp is talking to each other so they actually know what's going on.
Still, for the questions they answered, they added more:
Does juliet's recruiter not age, we see him with young ben and helping Locke and no aging--or is he the son of the first one?
is ben creating jacob psychicly? Is he split personality? is he like Walt then?
if ben's dad hated the island so much, why didn't he leave? it didn't appear that dharma prevented that. I was wondering at first if there was some kind of conspiracy to get ben to the island, but since they waited til he was 12...
Speaking of Dharma, we still don't know exactly what they were experimenting for...
what happened to ben's little girlfriend? did she die before ben exterminated Dharma, or did he decide to sacrifice her as well as his dad?
So jacob is the one who goes around luring people by appearing as their dead loved ones? Does that mean he's the First Evil?

And why does Jacob have an aversion to technology - even flashlights?
Is Jacob one of the original sailors of the Black Rock?
I'm getting a definite Myst feel here - someone go look for a red page. I'd be grabbing and poking every item in that cabin.

There were 11 frames of Jacob visibly sitting in the chair. This is right after he throws Ben into the wall:

I doubt Ben is creating Jacob. He'd probably be a lot less scared of him if that were the case.

What makes you think that Jacob is the one who does that? I don't remember the show hinting at that. (Also, the First Evil was so much more entertaining the first time it appeared.)

They still haven't explained why Desmond was found by Kelvin, the guy working with the dharma initiative pressing the button. Did Ben kill everybody except for him?

Considering that the station where Kelvin was had not been taken over or destroyed like all the other stations it seems likely that the Others left it alone or that they could isolate themselves from the Others.
One reason being that perhaps the others wanted to have someone pressing the button so things wouldn't go haywire when the station would implode.
Whatever the reson, the people in the station could isolate themselves from the world and survived the chemical attack. I think the history between Dharma and the Others is far from over.
What I'm wondering is:
* why did the guy from the Others who met Ben when he was a kid not age like normal people?
* where did they get the gas from that killed everyone - I noticed Ben had a factory made cannister?
* why does Dharma still send airshipments of supplies and how do they locate the island?
and a few other things, but right now, mostly these.

I kinda of thought she turned out to be Isabel. Dunno why I made this connection, though.
And the powder surrounding Jacob's cabin... reaching way back in my memory I thought that in evocation a ring of ash or saltpeter or some such was used to contain spirits, but I couldn't turn anything up with a quick Google.

Wow, great picture. It's pretty much the same angle in both, only reversed. I made these for comparison:
They actually look a little different when you compare them side-by-side. Most of Jacob's features are identically placed, but he lacks Locke's fivehead.

Thanks for the comparison shots. You're right that Jacob's forehead doesn't look like it's big enough. Still, I think the strong resemblence could be important.
Anyway, I guess that powdered substance is what Ben is using to imprison Jacob, huh?

Magic circles often use ash or salt or similar substances, though I think the purpose is usually to help with the invocation rather than to control a thing that's summoned, per se. Either way, the idea is that the circle creates a magic barrier. That's what I figured once I realized Jacob was a ghost(-like thing), too.

Thought this ep was dull myself; just a build up to the season finale. Nothing to see here, move along. I agree overall though, the second half of this season has been really entertaining.
