LG has introduced another high-resolution monitor to its computer display range, one which is able to display a higher-than-Ultra HD image. The Digital Cinema 4K monitor offers a resolution of 4096x2160, higher than the 3840x2160 resolution of a standard 4K television or display, all packed into a screen measuring 31 inches diagonally.

Spotted before IFA by Slashgear, the 10-bit color IPS display supports 99.5 percent of the Adobe RGB color space, with a Dual Color Space mode letting the display show two different color modes at once for comparison purposes. It also includes hardware calibration functionality, complete with LG's True Color Pro software. The color representation, which manages to cover 97 percent of DCI-P3 color space standards used for digital projectors, as well as the high resolution, is said to make it ideal for professionals working in video.

The display ships with an ergonomic pivot stand, Maxx Audio support, and though there is barely any mention about its connectivity, it does include support for Thunderbolt through the DisplayPort connector.

LG is making the Digital Cinema 4K Monitor, model 31MU97, available from this week in the United States, South Korea, Germany, Australia, and the United Kingdom, followed by the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, and Japan next month. Pricing is expected to be around $1,400, depending on the country.

This is NOT a Thunderbolt monitor, just a DisplayPort model. That's not end of the world, but for some scenarios the TB-based 34UM95-P might be a better option (that one is supported on more models as well, working with MBA machines).

According to an LG product page it's a Thunderbolt monitor. I have contacted LG to clarify, and will update the article if needed.
