Nice and funny speculation about 10.4.

hmm... macnet2.com... yeah.

Kosmo's the same guy that was claiming there were two versions of 4K78.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Talk about things people will never use...

I can see embedding some of the applications, but isn't that what got M$ in trouble?

There's nothing wrong with embedding apps. It just wrong if you just do it to keep your competitors out of business _and_ if you're a monopolist at the same time.

I really would love to see something like embedded apps. But hey, we have the Service menu already!

That always remebers me of the "Sneakers" movie: "Hi, my name is Werner Bradis. My voice is my passport. Verify me!"

Ha ha, I remember when I first installed OS 9 and decided to try that one out. I was still in high school at the time. It went something like this:

Me: My voice is my password.

OS 9: nothing...

Me: Err, let's try it again. My voice is my password.

OS 9: nothing...

Me: My voice is my password.

OS 9: nothing...

Me: My voice... is my password.

OS 9: nothing...

Me: MY... VOICE... IS... MY... PASSWORD.

OS 9: nothing...

Me: My...

My brother (sitting on the computer next to mine) "His voice is his password!! Okay?!"

That article prompted me to do my bi-annual "have-a-go-with-speakable-items"

It's quite impressive - in Panther the recognition seems to have improved, or maybe that's a combination of my SOCOM USB headset & a quicker powerbook.

Panther allows you to speak menus and switch between apps, minimise windows, speak people in your address book and all sorts of interesting stuff, like speaking your Safari toolbar bookmarks.

The "embedded apps" idea is patently ridiculous. It is possible that Apple will provide APIs to access these apps' functionality (as they've already done with AddressBook). But to turn Mail or iCal into preference panes? Methinks our friend Manzione has finally gone off the deep end.

The "voice-navigation" he mentions is also unrealistic. Although some of what he said -like speakable menus- were done way back in the days of OS9, many of the things he said would require speech-to-text dictation, and that's not something Apple has ever done.

Rather a shame, too. He was still at least somewhat sane when he departed us to form MacNetv2 (I saw the two 4K78 builds with my own eyes). But by this point there's no question: he's just plain nuts. Do you suppose that if we sent him over to thalo.net they'd take each other out?

It's almost like Manzione has seen the video posted in the lounge recently about apple's vision of the future of computers. the one with the bad acting from the two professors and the bow-tie... (couldn't find the thread I'm afraid).

We already have "zoomy out" windows like on the video, so maybe he was just envisaging what apple would do to make what was shown in the vid.

Still, I hope they don't include that bow-tie in 10.4
Just who are Britain? What do they? Who is them? And why?

First of all, never listen to anything that site says, it's a crappy site none the less. Secondly, voice as password is always a bad idea as our voices are always change year after year from we're youngsters to when we're older.

Dude, there was only one 4K78. If there was a secret version of 4K78 that was so much faster as Kosmo claimed, then why did the final 10.0 release version's speed suck so much until 10.1?

I personally am sure that there was just _one_ 4K78. But some people really mix up different builds and different distributions, which is what this whole fight is really about, I think.

But we won't come to a solution for this in this thread. We had long discussions about it three years ago, hadn't we, and still some are not yet convinced.

That's why I don't want to warm this all up again.
