I'm thinking of getting a power mac and I'd like to use it with a USB keyboard and mouse and with the 20" cinema display (and with a linux/windows box with a geforece 5600) -- both machines DVI only.

Anyone use the IOGear miniview?

http://www.iogear.com/main.php?loc=product&Item=GCS102U

It supports the resolution of the 20" and is available for only $71 at newegg:

The question is: does it work well?

Whoops. I just realized that that model is not a DVI switch.

I found this link on newegg for the GWC KD052D KVM:

http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Produ...82E16817107512

It's only a little more at $93.99.

Apple says it's 20" is "1680 x 1050 optimal resolution" and these DVI switches say max 1600 pixels. The switch manufacturers are just rounding, I hope?

I use an IOGear GCS 104U at home, and it works really well. It functions like a true switch, and moves around devices between machines.

However, it, and the one you linked don't support DVI. I'm not sure IOGear makes a DVI KVM.

EDIT:

As for the new one you linked, Newegg appears to be dead right now, but looking around on other sites, it appears to be PS/2.

I wouldn't cheap out on a KVM switch, the cheap ones usually have all kinds of video problems.

The one I meant to link is the LINKSKEY LDV-202AUSK KVM. It costs $169 from newegg. A bit pricier but that should do the trick.

As always, any experiences with a DVI switch welcomed.
