Actually, I would wait for a couple reasons..

1) There will more than likely be a speed bump (hopefully 1.25 GHZ)

Think about it. All they have to do is put the G4 1.25 chip in
and change the cooling system. The 1GHZ Ti book does not run
that hot anyways (as compared to the 12" for instance) so I
think its more of a cost issue (Apple being cheap again) vs a
technology issue. Apple tends to hide important negative PR
like the G4 is stuck at 1.42.. Its done.. Its reached its limit.

Think about it. The chip went from 1.25 GHZ to 1.42? Whoop Dee,
thats what .17 or a 12% jump. But Apple is promoting this speed
bump as a gift from God, but based on the benchmarks on
barefeats.com and http://macspeedzone.com/html/hardwar...all/index.html

etc.. its NOT ENOUGH to spend the extra dough on and have to wait
another 4-6 months for a speed jump. The gripe I have is people
have calculated this as the max speed for the chip and when Apple
released it it matched. Where else do you come up with 1.42 GHZ?
Why not 1.5 GHZ, because they cant.

Apple is very similiar to how Sun Micro sells computers. They
will screw the consumer by not putting the newest CPU in a
regular computer but force you to overspend by thousands to get
speed.
APPLE CAN MAKE A 1.25 GHZ PB, JUST DONT WANT TO RELEASE IT YET.
It will be worth it to have a 1.25 GHZ over the 1 GHZ model PB
for your $2800.

I have read that the G4 chip that is in the PB is the exact same
chip as PowerMac. So the chip is ready. There is no specific
G4-Mobile chip that I have read about.

2) I bet Apple will charge the usual $129 for the 10.3 upgrade so
you might as well wait for the new version to ship with the
computer.

3) Digitimes.com has been reporting that 15.4 PB (new model) are
"on order".

4) The regular titanium 1 GHZ PB will be reduced in price when the
new model is announced.

5) The new 15" will most likely have ATA-100 which is nice.

6) There might be a new ATi radeon cpu used as the 9000 is a couple chips behind what ati produces now, but highly unlikely without p*ssing off the 17" people.

REASONS TO BUY TI book Now
--------------------------

1) The 9000 mobility is faster than 440 go
2) I personality like the screen better on the tibook than the
screen on the 17" or the 12" or the Imac. It just looks more
vibrant and less "dotty"
3) There is no speed boost from the DDR memory or the 167 vs 133
system bus
4) Why wait? If you are going to wait you might as well wait for the
970s. But for my needs 1.25 is the line where it is fast enough.
The current 1 GHZ is borderline too slow and some of the games
are still choppy on the 17" according to some reviews Ive read.
BTW, Quake 3 is a very old game and its no wonder that it is
fast.
5) I personally like the keyboard better.
6) Its tried and true, been tested in the field.
7) If you buy now, you will get a nice chunk of it paid off in time
for Xmas shopping. If you have $2800 for a computer anytime you
want, then you should buy the 17" and forget about it and be
happy spending $3600 for a computer that runs as fast as a P3.

Come on Apple release the new 1.25 PB. This is retarted waiting around to spend thousands of dollars for slow computers that run outdated java slow. (I'm a Java developer, but want to switch to Mac but cant because the hardware is too slow.)

The PowerBook and PowerMacs do not use the same processor. There is more than one type of G4. Second, the new PowerMac speed is 1.42 and 1.5 for a reason to do with its bus speeds or something like that - I'm sure someone here will clarify that further. Regardless, there is a technical reason for it.

I was gonna wait until the 15" model became Aluminum to buy. But I had such an amazing deal that expired yesterday that I just had to snatch up the current Titanium model. It was too good to pass up.

We shouldn't see the new model for a while now, late summer probably, because they won't upgrade the processor in the 15" model and not the others. And the 12" and 17" models are too new to have processor upgrades yet.

If you can wait, wait. If you need something now or in the near future, then buy now. I doubt you'll be disappointed, the Titaniums are great machines.

..my sis was gonna wait , but time is money , so we gave in and we got a ti1ghz sd from harrods last week..

..this thing is utterly stunning!

..best laptop ive ever used..and the speed - woo hoo !

..has a dead pixel that if tapped from behind re-aligns so that's sorted , but apart from that no probs. at all..

VERY impressed.

plus - NO-ONE has the 17" in stock at ANY price.
