Microsoft and Google have come to a landmark agreement, regarding regulatory complaints across the world. The two companies have agreed to mutually cease all complaints worldwide, and are also planning to work together going forward to not have any future issues.

Speaking about the agreement, Google told re/code that "our companies compete vigorously, but we want to do so on the merits of our products, not in legal proceedings."

Microsoft had a similar statement, claiming that "Microsoft has agreed to withdraw its regulatory complaints against Google, reflecting our changing legal priorities. We will continue to focus on competing vigorously for business and for customers."

The move is similar to the agreement forged by the pair in September. That deal ended years of patent litigation between the two about Android-related patents, and licensing agreements.

I've got mixed feelings about this 'kiss and make up.' On one hand, I hate court squabbles since they distract from creating better products. On the other hand, this reminds me of a mother who said that when kids playing in the backyard suddenly go silent, it was a good time to see just what they were getting into. A too-silent Google/Microsoft might be up to similar mutual mischief.

@Inkling I totally agree. Google has been the company that doesn't respect patents (Java, etc.) and now they've talked Microsoft into not suing them. That seems to be a win for Google and a loss for Microsoft.

"our companies compete vigorously, but we want to do so on the merits of our products, not in legal proceedings." Yea, Google, since when have you competed on the merits of anything. Look at the payoff they got on all the illegal scanning of books. This is what happens when you spend too much money paying off politicians and judges.
