Anyone watch this? Made by the fantastic Alan Ball who made the awesome Six Feet Under.
The plot:
The show details the co-existence of vampires and humans in Bon Temps, a fictional small Louisiana town, after Japanese-made synthetic blood – "TruBlood" – becomes available for purchase and follows Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress at a diner who falls in love with vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer)
First episode - I'm very impressed!

I watched it. Jury's still out. I was very excited for it because of Ball. I think it's definitely got potential, but could easily go either way.

I've watched the first two episodes but it's not grabbing me too much. Not sure if I'll continue watching or not.

It's a pilot. None of the writers, the actors, the director, &c. have gotten a feel for the characters or the tone of the show yet. Ever watch the first two seasons of Star Trek: The Next Generation?

When Charmed first aired there was some backlash given the content of the show. But do you know why it lasted for 7 season? I can give you 6 reasons.

Yeah, but I'm upgrading two reasons to sporty red trim. Who doesn't like red? Red's my favorite color.

I just caught the 3 available episodes on a website I frequent. I really enjoyed them. Had many parts in the 3 episodes that actually made me LOL. I'll keep an eye on this show. By the way, thanks Peter for pointing me to it.

Although I like Anna Paquin at times, I couldn't sit through this show. Let me know if it's worth getting into.

Bare in mind that I did not see the pilot. In the episode I saw, I didn't care about any of the characters. I couldn't figure out the various motivations of the characters, other than Paquin and her "Angel" type paramour. I also found the show to be on the hokey side. But that's just my honest opinion based on one episode.

One thing that you might consider is to just sit down and watch all the available episodes one after another. It's a good introduction to the show, and I felt that the first three tied into each other very well. I think this show is one of those kinds that you can't just start on a random episode.

I watched the first 3 episodes last night. So far I like it. It's not earth shattering entertainment, but it's a nice way to waste an hour if I'm bored. The whole premise is far fetched so you can't scrutinize it too severely. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the spectacle. That is unless it just gets too ridiculous....which I'm afraid it could.

Has anyone read any of the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris on which True Blood is based?

Dude, it's a show about vampires.

But really that gives it plenty to scrutinize. Vampire have been defined in different ways by different authors for a very long time. The way that they chose to represent them in the show (don't know if it's the same as the books or not) is definitely something to scrutinize and examine. There's plenty of variation and added detail to the 'standard' representation of vampires to look at, and once they set up the ground rules you have a context in which to scrutinize it without just dismissing it all as far fetched.

Dunno if I like it. I absolutely loved Six Feet Under, so I think that made me have different expectations going into it. Gonna have to see a few more to know if I will continue watchin.

Some how, some way, I've become completely hooked on this show. The vamps aren't rednecks, and the rednecks are comically accurate. It's very well acted and the writing is usually above average, overall it's a great way to spend an hour each week. Coming from a background of playing Vampire:TM in my youth, this show captures that feeling to a tee.

I suppose if you don't care for the genre, this show may not appeal to you. However, if you do, it most surely will.

FFS. Seriously. Go back to the pilot

1. Watch the vampire sex tape scene.

2. Regain your composure after you undoubtably laugh yourself to near death.
3. Come back to this thread and honestly tell me this show is anything remotely watchable.

I liked the first two episodes. I'm losing my interest pretty quickly, and I like vampire flicks.

I'm willing to bet the bar owner is a werewolf.

I have to admit, I'm really starting to get into this show. It's a lot of fun, and I am a bit of a sucker for the genre...

Also glad to know I'm not the only one harboring the same suspicions about that dog.

I think Lafayette is probably the best character on the show. I've been watching it, but I still haven't made up my mind whether or not I actually like it. I've read a couple of the books the show is based on, and if memory serves they seem to have made some changes. Like Tara being an angry young black woman. And speaking of Tara, did anyone see the pilot tha got leaked earlier this summer? I kind of liked the chick that played the role of Tara in the pilot better than the one that is actually cast in the show. This seems to be a minority opinion.

I've watched the first five episodes. I like it so far. Not great, but pretty good in terms of entertainment.

Negatives so far are the long intro sequence and Sookie's messed up teeth -- they're distracting.

Yeah, the long intro sequence bothers me too. Fortunately they picked one of my favorite songs for it. Also I don't watch it on live tv, so I just fast forward through it.

The series has kicked into a higher gear. I've really been enjoying the second season, it's probably the best show on TV right now.

I just have to make my wife keep her mouth shut, she's been reading the books and keeps trying to add commentary during each episode.

Have to agree! I'm really loving season 2 but the Maryann character is really creeping me out. And speaking of new characters, you won't find me complaining that "Eggs" is shirtless in every scene.

Same. This show is getting really good. I like that they're really exploring the idea of the vampires outside of their home location and also the non-human, non-vampire side of things.
Great show.

Maryann really intrigues me. I like that I have no idea where her character is going.
One thing that has always bugged me about the show is that we've always just had to accept that Sookie happens to have the ability to read minds. I'm glad that now they're exploring that angle.

Is the TV show going the same route as the books? I've been contemplating reading them.

I think the show is taking a slightly different route than the books. I checked Wikipedia last night trying to find information about Maryann, but there was none. Also, it seems that the up until now it has been a blend of the first and last book, but I haven't read them to be $100 sure.

Well, I guess since there are nine books, if they are $10 a pop plus tax, I would be $100 sure about how the seasons are going.
