For the last few years, I’ve been using an upgraded B&W G3 as my iTunes server for the whole house. We have several different computers, each with at least one iTunes Library (depending on how many people tend to use that computer) on its internal hard drive, all pointing to the same media folder on a SATA RAID in the G3. It works beautifully, and allows each of us to have his or her own ratings, play counts, etc., while still having all of our media available to any machine.
Well, over the course of the last year or so, the B&W has started having problems. Suffice to say, it was time to update my server. I wound up going with a NAS RAID, so I can have it online without worrying about a computer. The only problem: iTunes.
I know the official method of updating the iTunes media location using Consolidate Files, and it works beautifully. However, that only works on the first computer; after that, the files are already where they need to be, and if I were to consolidate, I’d wind up with duplicates, triplicates, etc.. So, the $64,000 question is: what do I do for the others? How do I point iTunes to a new folder without destroying my play counts, etc.?
Thanks!
