Lunch conversation led to this today, and I don't know why, but it was kind of fun to think about--albeit morbid. So...

Other than while you're sleeping, what would be the best way to go (by someone else's hand or nature's, or something along those lines)?

A cause-of-death, not a specific instance, thus, if you say a heart attack or something, you don't get to decide what kind of excitement brought it on

I think I have a great one, I can't think of anything that tops it. But I'll listen to your ways first. So, what would it be?

If I find out I had a terminal illness, I would make a trek to the Alaskan wilderness. Die in the snow covered mountains in a tent somewhere.

The best, I would think, would be what I've heard called "a clean death". You know, quick and painless and all that.

If I had to choose between quick or painless, I think I'd probably choose painless, because even though that means a slow death, hopefully that would be enough time to see to those things which need seen to.

I'd rather die a painful death but not a slow one. Um.. because I'd like to feel alive before I die and what a better way to feel alive then to feel pain.

If i didn't know death was comming then oh well, stuff happens. If I knew death was comming as in a few days in advance then I would do something extreme in service of humanity like assisinate the N. Korean dictator.

Ok im getting off topic, to the point, I want to see it comming, I want to feel it hard when it happens and my final thoughts would probably something dumb like, " I wonder if my dead carcus will serve as good fertalizer for where I lay".

I think getting hit by a meteor might fit this criteria...although it might be so quick that you don't have time to feel the pain, would that be better or worse?

Head trauma, or just a brain shut-down. I'd rather not have the rupturing brain tumor, but more of an instant death from something I didn't know that I had. No pain, no worries. Not sure if a bullet to the head fits this category though.

Better or worse? i don't think it would matter with your example. Just to think that if someone caught this death on video and it was played on all the news channels over and over again would be a cool deal.

Drowning wasn't bad, was clinically dead for 5-6 minutes by physician estimates. It happened at the local pool when I was 12 (first time I ever went off the high dive). Just a couple seconds of panic and I blacked out. It's one of the most, if not THE most, important events in my life so far.

Realistically, I'd like it to be either doing something vigorous rather than dying quietly in bed, or if I found I had a terminal illness, I'd spend some time visiting those that I love and then probably head out somewhere beautiful in the mountains and quietly overdose. My decision, my hand, my timing.

If there was someone else trying to end it for me against my will, I'd go kicking, screaming and fighting to the last to protect my loved ones.

If I ever ended up hooked on a machine to keep me going, my wife knows to just pull the plug and let me go.

many terminal cancer patients drive on those salty plains (uhh somewhere in the USA). That must be cool. Being a testpilot must be very rewarding too. I would never accept plain suicide as a way to die. Better risk your life for a shitload of fame and fortune than giving your life away for free

Been there too. When I was a kid, I had an operation (one of many) on my hips, and my heart stopped during the operation. I can remember leaving my body feeling extremely peaceful, looking down at the theater staff trying to restart my heart, sort of one of those out of body experiences, and then a sharp shock, I suppose as they used the defibrillators.

I couldn't say today if that was a hallucination, but other people I have met have had similar experiences, so perhaps it was real.

As for the dying itself, I'm quite a coward and have had more than my share of pain in my life, and I think that an OD of medical anasthetic would probably be the least painful, although peacefully dying of heart failure in my sleep in old age doesn't sound to bad either.

For the moment though, I think I'll concentrate on living. Death comes to us all whether we want it or not.

quick and painless would be how i want to die. gun shot to the head. driving my car under a semi at like 80mph (while not looking. i dont want to be scared).
