I've decided to get a subscription. I don't play many games, but like to develop software. Which one should I get? If you check other, please specify.

Used to read both, but don't anymore because all they write about is old news. If you read the Mac news related websites daily, you don't need either magazine.

I noticed in one of the other threads that people like MacFormat. But hell if I'm going to pay $119 US dollars for 13 magazines. Theres something nice about getting a printed magazine. You don't have to be sitting in front of a computer to enjoy it...

I browse both of them.

80% advertisements.
10% old news
5% Editorial
5% Reviews

For $20 a year, I it's worth is some of the time, but not much. I've gone through entire editions without even finding one interesting article.

I get both magazines, like to look through the articles and advertisements.

I just ordered MacAddict through www.discountmagazines.com for $5.95. I figure for $6, its hardly something to think twice about. I might try the MacTech one too, but at $50, its something I want to browse a couple issues of first, before buying.

Back in the day, MacAddict was great. But it's definately overshadowed by the internet now.

Mac Addict is nice from the standpoint of it brings those shareware apps to your attention, apps you never knew you needed. I have all my CDs going back to '97!

MacWorld is a big waste even if it is free.

Teh intarweb > magazines.

Neither one is very good. MacWorld is shallow and uninformative, while MacAddict is fanboyish.

Okay, go for MacDirectory (www.macdirectory.com). Very good magazine, good reviews, real articles. You can also pretend you're one of the upper-class mac users

MacTech is great if you're a developer. If not you probably won't find it terribly interesting.

I've written for both of those, great magazines.

huh... Actually I just bought my first MacDirectory about a week ago. Problem is I want a monthly. Whats with this 4 times a year junk? I also didn't relate to alot of the articles. It seemed more geared towards professional graphic artists. I'm an amature, to be sure. As such, I want reviews of the cheap stuff!!

They just manage to cover costs as it is. So 90% of the writers aren't staff and donate their time. As such its pretty much the writers that decide what to review, and the editor just points them in the general direction.

They gear it toward pros for certain, but it also varies per issue. There have been some very interesting articles and interviews.. unlike macworld which is primarily little tid-bits here an there.

I think there is still a market out there, but they need to focus more on application reviews, step by step how-to guides, NICE glossy photos of crazy computer setups and funny and interesting articles about people in the industry.

I guess I'm simply very tired of the "G4 review" when the G5 was just released... The three to four month lag is a killer.

I wish someone would have "a day in the life" and show pro mac users and their setups and applications used.
