Firstly i have to say i'm new to unix and apple. In saying that here is my problem.

I have been given some instructions on how to modify a vendor id to use a sierra aircard here in australia. The files that needed to be changed are
/system/library/extensions/ioserialfamily.kext/contents/plugins/appleverisonsupport.kext (edit with pico)

/system/library/extensions/ioserialfamily.kext/contents/plugins/appleverizonsupportkicker.kext

I started by using pico to edit first file, and saved it i thought. But now when i go in to view the second file it has said "file read error". I am lost as to why. I have looked at the directory, and there is now a folder for each of the above files as well as a file with ._ in front of it.

Can anyone help me? am i missing a command, Or do i need to reinstall "plugins" file from another computer?

Thanks
