I've got a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac and when watching movies there is definitely some kind of simulated surround processing happening which makes sounds come from the far left, right and even behind. Is this embedded into the movies or does the iMac do some kind of processing automatically in relation to phase?

I noticed that when I got my iMac G5 ages ago. I think it's just the way the speakers are placed. The specialization is fairly impressive, especially in scenes with a lot of ambient noise.
