The James LeGros character (Chad Palomino) is not so loosely based on Brad Pitt BTW.
Holy ****, guys, thanks for that!

I'd never heard of this movie - this is GREAT!

Kentucky Fried Movie

"A series of loosely connected skits that spoof news programs, commercials, porno films, kung fu films, disaster films, blaxploitation films, spy films, mafia films, and the fear that somebody is watching you on the other side of the TV."

Directed by John Landis
Written by Abrahams and Zucker (yeah, the Airplane guys)

Not a comedy, but the documentary "Hands on a Hardbody," set at a Texas car dealership, provides some chuckles, and is a classic slice of Americana:

"Twenty-four contestants compete in an endurance/sleep deprivation contest in order to win a brand new Nissan Hardbody truck. The last person to remain standing with his or her hand on the truck wins. An absurd marketing gimmick at first glance, the contest proves to be much more..."

Seems the tagline came true:

Liability Release At Issue in "Hardbody" Death

Richard Vega

A Texas man who killed himself after participating in an endurance contest extinguished any wrongful-death claim by signing a liability release, the sponsor of the contest argues in a motion for summary judgment.

Patterson Nissan of Longview, Texas, asserted the waiver defense to avoid getting to the merits of whether it caused Richard Vega's suicide by failing to protect him from the “bizarre and dangerous consequences” of its “Hands on a Hardbody” contest. Vega's family sued the auto dealership for wrongful death in January.

“[T]he contract signed by Vega prior to competing in the contest ... acts as an absolute bar to any right of action that plaintiffs may bring against Patterson,” the motion says.

By signing the release, contestants assumed “full and complete responsibility and liability for his or health and safety” and agreed to indemnify Patterson “against any demands, claims or liability.”

But the plaintiffs' attorney contends the release is unenforceable boilerplate.

“The contract ... was not a negotiated contract with parties of equal competence,” Blake Bailey of Tyler, Texas, says in a brief. “In fact the contestants were overwhelmed by advertisement and the chance to win a truck most could never hope to own.”

Vega, 24, competed in September 2005 to win a Nissan pickup, the prize going to the contestant who endured standing beside the truck with a hand on it longer than any other. After standing for 48 hours, he walked away, broke into a Kmart across the street and, with a shotgun taken from the store, shot himself in the head.
Which begs the question: Why were there unsecured guns and ammo in a ****ing K-mart?

Brazil by Terry Gillium. Bizarre dark comedy and political satire. And beautiful to boot.

In Search of a Midnight Kiss

Awesome movie. Saw it a few weeks ago.

From Wikipedia...

The film follows the plight of Wilson (Scoot McNairy), a 29-year-old man who has just suffered through the most miserable year of his life. A new arrival to the City of Angels, Wilson ends up alone and penniless as New Year's Eve rapidly approaches, and avows to lock his doors, pull his blinds, and climb into bed - until best friend Jacob (Brian McGuire) talks him into posting a Craigslist personal ad.

Dead Alive.

Office Space.

Army of Darkness.

Bubba Ho-Tep.

Kung Fu Hustle.

The Rundown (IMHO, a very underrated movie).

These are a few that I have.

Ouch, sorry. I guess it's not for everyone. Torrent before you buy next time?

I actually think the same way about some of the other films mentioned here. For example, I'm a big Mike Judge fan but found Idiocracy almost intolerable. I wasn't impressed at all by Bowfinger, yet people swear by it as one of the funniest films ever. Tastes differ.

Haha, I don't know. Could have been off of Half or something.

You know, 7.8/10 stars on IMDB means I can't be entirely wrong in recommending it, BPR.

What's this random white sh*t bubbling out of the ground? I'll just take a handful and taste it for no apparent reason. That movie cracks me up.

Blazing Saddles is brilliant. I have to agree that I didn't think Bowfinger was all that funny. Fake Purse Ninjas was about as funny as it got for me, and that was in the stupid trailer.

Well, at any rate, I would never Torrent something that I can buy for $ 3.

This is an excellent addition, which also made me start to think of other movies with Richard Grant.

I'd say one of his best is How to Get Ahead in Advertising, where he plays an ad executive who gets a boil on his shoulder that starts talking to him.

As one might surmise from the disgusting premise, it's dark, dark satire, so it isn't really for everyone, but I've never seen him get another role that played so well into his strengths as an actor. I was going to say it was almost like it was made for him, only find out it was written and directed by the same guy who did Withnail and I, so there you go.
