Yes. See many of the new cloud appliances - infuriating that they try to make you use their own cloud service instead of your existing 3rd party cloud or local storage (wifi or direct). The Nest outdoor cam is a prime example of a good product otherwise spoiled like that.

Sad to see Apple bailing on routers. I suppose we are the minority, but I've been running an all-Apple household for years so I hope my Time Capsule lasts a few more years.

Speaking of routers, my couple-of-versions-old Airport Extreme was pushed a firmware update last night. Not a "Hey, there's an update you might want to install" popup, mind you. It was a "We've bricked your device until you install this update" thing. I had no wifi until I ran the update. I'm guessing it was some super-serious security update.

I got the updates, but it didn't brick anything.

It did get the blinky amber thing, but everything was still functional.

I guess by "brick" I meant that there was no wifi available until I ran the update. Normally, I just get an alert about an update, but that doesn't make the yellow blinky thing happen or the network to go down.

For a wifi access point, no wifi is bricked enough for me.

Mine all went amber, but were still providing wifi... just like you're used to.

Well... half used to. Mine usually go amber when there's an update.

Supposedly Apple wants to get into scripted tv. But keeping the airport alive was too costly...

I would vote against that. Based on Apple's store policies, there would be nothing controversial in an Apple-produced show. We already have Disney for safe, boring shows.

Maybe Tim will surprise me, but...

Using exclusive programming to push hardware?

What century is this guy living in?

That's the other thing. There are soooo many "political" suck vectors.

Instead of starting another thread, might as well ask this here...

Any of you guys use Spotify? I'm looking for some curated playlists from other users I know, but I refuse to link my Facebook to it (too many prying eyes from very annoying/critical folks).
