Hey all. I performed a clean install of 10.5.0 on my Mac Pro (Quad 2.66) on launch day, but have been unable to install 10.5.1; I download it in Software Update, go through the whole installation process, but then at the end, the installer informs me that "OS X Update could not be installed because some files could not be written to '/'."

Any ideas? Everything else (Quicktime, iLife updates, Pro app updates, etc) installs fine. It sounds like some kind of permissions issue. If anyone has a lead, many thanks!
Be happy.

Wow, I just ran a permissions check, and there are literally thousands of entries. I'll post back after I repair.
Be happy.

I'm 99% sure 10.5.0 has a bug in Disk Utility where it will show thousands of entries even if there are only a few. However, it still fixes them. it does sound like a permissions problem. You're not a limited user are you?

I had a very similar issue with my iMac. The permissions repair should fix everything for you too. Leopard likes to mess up a lot of permissions along with iTunes it seems.
