Congrats.

Btw., a German Doctor is NOT necessarily equivalent to a PhD.

IIRC, with a PhD, you would legally NOT be allowed to call yourself a Doktor in Germany. But I can't find the source right know...

Congratulations euphras on the occasion of receiving your PhD. An accomplishment to be very proud.

If you are a professor for a university, do you get your summer's off? You work for most of the school year, then relax over the summer?

Congratulations! A superb accomplishment! What's your doctorate in?
From general to special field: biology/botany/molecular plant pathology/molecular cytologist

Ill ask Demonhood to add a "jpg heavy" to the thread title and post some pics from my thesis that also bear some aesthetical aspects (at least i think so)

And: thanks for all your input so far

euphras, congrats. For me, it was a long hard road a few years ago, and I'm sure that you're relieved. You just never know whether some prof is going to throw you in front of a bus at some stage of a doctoral program.

As for "relaxing," most of us teach for recreation. The rest of the time (80+ hours per week, year-round) we're doing research so we can keep our jobs and have some stability in our lives. Very few folks get to take the summer off.

True. In Europe, they get a D.Sc. (Doctor of Science). It's actually regarded higher than a Ph.D. I got my Ph.D. in Chemistry in Nov. 2003. Congratulations - it's a great accomplishment.

Lollll !

teaching is kinda of a side job for a professor (and postdocs, doctoral students). The main assignment for scientists is research.

Probably the top academic complaint of your typical college undergrad, i.e., professors don't devote enough time to teaching.

Youre right, but like finboy said, i always had fun when attending courses. It was like "getting back to the roots of biology".
I always tried to do a good job, even when it sometimes was hard to do so.

As for "relaxing," most of us teach for recreation.

Screw a PhD. A B.S. is enough of a pain in the rear to get...what sucks is the more ppl that get them, the lower we B.S. holders get paid which blows.

*realizes it's finals week and how much school is a waste of life*

But seriously, congrats

Thanks a lot, cenutrio!
Theyre all depicting fungal infection structures (fungus: Claviceps purpurea; ergot). From bottom to top:

-attached spores on the surface of stigmatic hairs of rye
-a germinating spore on top of the ovary
-germinating spore (top-left) and proliferating hyphae inside the stigma growing downwards to the ovule
