I have used VLC to convert .asf into .mov. Problem is I am not getting any sound only video. What should I do or what other programs can I use?

You need to install it under root for it to work properly.

Make sure you de-authenticate/disable the root account after you've finished installing ffmpegX. Unless you're an offline administrator, it's not a good idea to have this account active when it's not needed.

You do not need root to install ffmpegX, I've installed it successfully just under regular admin.
