I know this is a loaded question, but if you couldn't use Macs anymore, which PC maker would you trust for a PC? (My wife needs one and I just don't trust Dell.)

She prefers Windows. I hate Windows but whatever floats her boat.

BYO. Much cheaper, and you get exactly what you want (assuming you know what you're doing, that is).

Just tell her it's Mac or nothing. She'll convert.

The rule of thumb is Dell for desktops and IBM for laptops

I like the Shuttle for desktops, actually.

Laptops, as much as I like Sony, I'm skeptical of their build quality, as people I know have had some issues. I suppose I'd waver between them and IBM. Toshiba used to be up there, but are crap lately.

The question is though: Why exactly does your wife need a PC (she may not).

I'd love to wait a year but her current desktop is just getting too long in the tooth. As for making her switch, I won't do that to her but I have told her not to expect me to provide support for Windows any longer, which is why I am looking for a computer with tech support (life is too short to deal with Windows).

I'll check Dell's website, although I have a hard time with the idea of actually placing an order with them.

If she's not going to play games, order from either Dell or HP's business class machines. They're much better than the consumer stuff.

edit: I guess it doesn't matter because in this thread everyone is going to single out problems they have had with a computer maker and bitch and complain saying they suck.
