I have 19.24 gigs of music on my 30 gig ipod. It won't let me put any more music because it's full with 27.82 gigs, what? I don't have any album art, pictures, or movies. Where are these 8 mystery gigs from?

Try erasing it and reloading it.

Do you have your ipod enable for disk use? you might have something on there that you didn't remember.... also if you did have something and trashed it, it will still be on there.. you would have to empty the trash while the ipod is connected.

Something else to try would be use disk utility to format the drive then use ipod restore to load it back. though use that method with extreme caution.

If you have iTunes 7, it will tell you how much is taken up by each type of file (music, video, photos, other). That could be helpful.

aaah the 9 gigs of "OTHER" were music files on the drive. I never put them there which is interesting but regardless I've destroyed them and everything is NOMINAL.

Did you have it enabled for disk use and have anything in the trash pending deletion? If so, even if it is in the trash, it will take up space on your iPod and you will need to empty the trash in order to free up that disk space.
