This only happened yesterday and today, but it's odd.

When i booted the computer for the first time each morning, and then launched Safari......i got the spinning beach ball in Safari. If i tried to force quit and then relaunch Safari.....i still get the beach ball. If i force quit and then reboot the computer....i get the beach ball the next time I launch safari.

The only way to not get the beach ball is to launch safari....and let it sit there spinning for 30 seconds. Then the Safari window pops up and works fine. Every other reboot of the day works fine. It just the initial boot each day.

What could cause something like this?
MAC PRO: Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon 5400 processors
ATI Radeon HD 4870 with 512MB of GDDR5 memory
1600MHz, 64-bit dual independent frontside bus
16 Gigs (4x4) of 800MHz DDR2 memory

A corrupt plist, plugin, or input manager for starters.
Have you installed anything like the latter two recently?

Try resetting Safari. Safari menu > Reset Safari...

I'd encourage you to apply the steps here: http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/Sampling (except to Safari rather than Adium, of course). Post the result and people here should be able to get some idea of what it's doing while it's beachballing.

Not sure if i was clear in the first post. I reboot several times during the day. This SOMETIMES happens the FIRST reboot in the morning. Not always.

Corrupt plist and other stuff would happen each reboot ( i would think )

I will attempt to do the Activity Monitor.

Why are you shutting down several times a day? I recommend putting your machine to sleep instead.

If I leave for a few hours, i tend to shutdown. I've never been much of a sleeper.
