That's cool. I used to run a lot and this would've been great. But now I'm lazy and I plan on avoiding running for the rest of my life.

I don't get it. That said I really don't run, I use the eliptical at the gym. I should probably get a new pair of shoes and take up running or at least try. I really have kinda stopped losing weight.

why not - in Central Park in NYC alone there are insane amunts of joggers with both Nikes and Nanos. Clever initiative, particularly from a crossover marketing standpoint (ie if Nike promotes this as well).

It's very cool. I have a little GPS bike comp that tracks my ride. I connect it to my Mac after and it does the same....downloads my data, shows my progress, etc. Runners will like this I think.

The Niketown site has a bit more info. The battery can't be replaced, but if you get 1200 hours of operation out of the sensor it seems ok.
http://niketown.nike.com/niketown/ca...esrc=nikeplus#
# The Nike+ sensor slips unobtrusively into a pocket under the sockliner.
# Automatically turns on and off, providing approximately 1200 hours of operation.
# Waterproof and virtually unbreakable.
# The iPod Nano tracks your progress, providing feedback on distance, time, pace and calories burned directly through the headphones.
# After your run, a performance summary appears on the Nano screen and can be heard through the headphones.

It sounds like an awesome idea. Every runner wants to know their progress and many runners listen to their iPods while running, it just seems too obvious. And it's great how your iPod will tell you how you're doing without you having to fumble around with it while you're running.

Be interesting to see how accurate the sensors are, and if they need calibrating to your individual gait.

I like that, and the shoes are really nice. The package comes out in July.
I am definitely going to get them since I have been running lately. The wife and I do 5k runs about twice a month. They're fun, nothing serious, but this is just another excuse to replace the jogging shuffle with a 1gig nano and get a new pair of shoes

You know, I'd much rather have seen an iMac update, that I would have bought at least.
Though, I suppose there isnt a higher clocked CPU out to justify an updated iMac yet is there?
I just want one so bad! But I wan't the latest and greatest Rev. B.

The other problem is that you can't freely choose your running shoes. You've got to pick a pair that fits to your feet (fit, cushioning, pronation etc.) For some people that might be a Nike, for most it isn't.
Polar makes a sensor that can be attached to any shoe, so why can't Apple?

Because they are partnering with Nike. Nike was the one who started this whole project. Apple just got on board. And I think you can figure out why Nike only made it work in their shoes.

I doubt it would be very comfortable at all. You would end up having to cut out a crevace in the inside of your shoe to fit it under your footpad, since it seems the sensor isn't exactly wafer thin. Good luck with that.

Would you really have to dig out a crevace? Come on, you're a mac user can't you be more creative than that? Seriously I think it would feel fine in the arch of my shoe or tied between the laces and tongue. However, I won't be buying this as I don't run. No need to run when I've always weighed about 130ish with an athletic build

I am just going off of the diagram provided on Apple's site. The device fits into a crevace underneath the footpad of the shoe. I don't know how big the device is. I don't know if the device can function ecffectively anywhere else. If its just another pedometer type thing where you can clip it to your belt or something then I don't see why you couldn't use it with other shoes. That would make me wonder why Nike would even make special shoes for the device.
Edit: And damn, 130-ish? How tall are you? I'm like 5'11" and about 175-180. I'm pretty damn slim, not super athletic though.

it's small, but I doubt it'll fit anywhere else on a shoe other than under the insole.

I'm 5'8, 180 is slim? since when?
The device prolly just measures the shocks, so theoretically if that's true you could put it almost anywhere on you.

Km are you one of those gay guys that tries to be under a size 30? I have a friend I recently hung out with that, he was calling himself fat when I felt like he looked too thin! Then again I'm 260 and 6 3, though my friend guessed me at only 200. I have a large build in general, I could probably never have a waist bellow 34.

Well, if Nike had decent running shoes, I'd be excited
If, on the other hand, Asics were to offer similarly equipped shoes, I'd be sold immediately. (Well, I just bought new sneakers, but wth …)

Just about everywhere, cycling with earphones/headphones is illegal. And for good reason, if you ask this cyclist.
