I used to play around with new apps rather often in the past and now my bought apps section in the appstore is crammed. (IOS). Can I remove single entries?

No. The Purchased Apps section is a complete record of all the apps you've ever bought. Consequently, nothing can be removed from it -- unless, I suppose, the developer completely withdraws the app from sale making it forever unavailable for re-downloading, but Apple has actually taken steps to discourage that, making older versions still available for those few who need them.
