Rendezvous has seemingly quit functioning on my computer as in both iTunes music sharing as well as in iChat. When I start ichat I am given the error "Could not connect to Rendezvous NSNetServices error -72000, domain 10" Anyone have any clue what could be wrong here?

Chances are the mDNSResponder (essentially the core of Rendezvous) has crashed. Restarting your computer should bring it back to life.

Hmm..actually restarting doesn't seem to help. Here's what's in the console after rendezvous fails to start:
## Component Manager: attempting to find symbols in a component alias of type (regR/carP/x!bt)
DNSServiceDiscoveryLookupServer(): {DNSServiceDiscovery.c:141} bootstrap_look_up() failed: $44e

)}

2004-03-14 19:56:33.591 iChatAgent[809] WARNING: SubNetService: Could not start up for some reason!

Any clue?

Try fixing permissions. Perhaps an executable couldn't execute or read a file.

I use my iMac DVSE 400 as the airport software base station. I use Roadrunner cable. My PB and iMac don't work with sharing for rendezvous either. Get the same message you do.

I can't remember the thread but this is a common occurance with 10.3.2. (Maybe before that. Can't recall when it started to happen to me.)

I tried repairing permissions, but no dice. I updated to 10.3.3 and it also hasn't been helpful. I get this in the console when just trying to share iTunes music:
DNSServiceDiscoveryLookupServer(): {DNSServiceDiscovery.c:141} bootstrap_look_up() failed: $44e
DNSServiceDiscoveryLookupServer(): {DNSServiceDiscovery.c:141} bootstrap_look_up() failed: $44e

I'm about out of ideas. Did you ever get your problem fixed kcmac?

Wow, but for the error message, I have the same problem. Setup also differs slightly (ichat beta, 10.2.8 on PowerBook, ichat beta, 10.2.6. on iBook). I also haven't been able to share my iTunes with Windows users at work, but figured this was a firewall/network issue.

The MDNSResponder tip was interesting. For the past few weeks I've noticed it in my Process Viewer because the owner is "nobody". Previously, the only owners that appeared were myself and root. But logging out, restarting doesn't fix it. It always appears.

Does anybody have other ideas? I'd really like to get this up and running again.

mDNSResponder should be running. It should also be owned by nobody. That is perfectly normal.

After updating to 10.3.4 Rendezvous is now working for me once again! Yayyyyyy.

It is so nice to share iTunes again.

Don't know if it makes a difference but I upgraded from 10.3.3 and used the combined updater this time instead of going with the software update.

Why not just upgrade to 10.3.9 with a combined update?
