Eric Schmidt is no longer Google CEO, but will still be involved as an advisor at Google. Very interesting move, Schmidt has had a lot of great ideas and seems to be a very bright man, but he's also been the man prosecuting such expensive failures such as Google Wave, Buzz, etc.

At this rate, Steve Ballmer should be arming his alarm system

He probably got to experience the safari/iTunes merger browser thing, and is throwing in the towel early. Smart move, really.

The Safari/iTunes merger browser rumour is a crock.

They both run on WebKit; that's it.

This is a current rumor? Crazy.

I think it would be a good move for Apple to allow iTunes Store access from Safari or any other browser, though.

He's got billions in the bank, probably wants to use some of it instead of suffering a heart attack in the next few years.

Does this mean that Google will stop being tossers?
Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.

No.

Schmidt will use his time to lobby other companies into "sharing their vision".

So novices can go there, buy music and then wonder where it downloaded? There's a reason the iTunes store was not a web store to begin with.

I've never seen a case of web vs. native app, where the web provided a better experience, except where a native app was written to compliment an existing web site, and all of the features weren't implemented yet.
