Finally, mom updated from her old Preforma:

75Mhz PPC 603 processor
32MB RAM
1GB HD
Mac OS 9.0.4
Ethernet

to... her new iMac G5!

20" ****in' beautiful LCD
1.8Ghz PPC 970FX (G5)
nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra 64MB
512MB RAM (2x512MB Cas 2.5 in the mail)
160GB SATA HD
Superdrive
AirPort Extreme
Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse
Mac OS X 10.3.7

god damn... the difference is ****in' insane get constant 60+ frames per sec. in iTunes, will rip at over 20x in iTunes from CD to AAC...

the display makes my 16.1" Mitsubishi look like ass, and my display looks very good... except next to that beauty right over there (<----)

FireWire target disk mode is the only time I've ever heard the fans on high, and damn they move some serious air through that thing. otherwise I NEVER notice them on, and I sat there today for three hours straight (maybe a bit more) ripping CDs in iTunes for her and was silent. air was indeed moving though as I could feel it out the back... and yes, performance is now set to highest. automatic is for laptops, not desktops.
