looking to put 1GB into a new iMac G5 17" 1.9Ghz, crucial list two chips for each memory amount.
One using DDR2-553

and

one using DDR2 - 667

one is presumably faster, but which is the best to get?

Is it worth getting the faster slightly more expensive chip or not?

The imac lists its bus as 633Mhz, but doesn't say anything specific about its built in memory other than the size.

thx

What's the price difference between the two? I wouldn't pay more than $15 extra for the DDR2 667.

its $35 including tax

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300082

has about 64bit path vs 128bit paths if using matched pairs - looking on apple's site:

http://www.apple.com/uk/imac/specs.html

they say 533Mhz, so that's what I'll be getting - dammit, they're out of stock

thx 4 the reply

Take the 533. Your iMac doesn't support any faster speed, so the 667 would be a waste of money (since your iMac would run it at 533).

I'm not sure why Crucial offers higher speeds than the hardware supports for some computer models. For some systems they do it, for some they don't.
