For some reason, the system volume on G5s is no longer changable when digital optical speakers are being using. However, programs like Unsanity's "Detour" can control the finder volume or any other app's volume just fine...

So, here's the question: Is there any way to tie Detour's functionality back to the G5 keyboard volume keys? Or is there another way? While messing with the knob on my speakers works, it's 1) less convenient, and 2) irritating, since the speakers are shared with a PC that's much quieter at the same speaker volume setting (more of an issue when switching back the G5 -- KABOOM!).

I was hoping maybe 10.3.5 would enable actual supported built-in control of optical speakers. No dice

Anyway, if anyone knows of anything that can be done, post away!
Be happy.

It never was. It's an optical output, that's kind of the point.

All I can suggest is set all your applications to the optimal volume level, and try and do the same with the PC (should be able to set it at the same level). Then adjust your speaker volume as needed - hopefully you have a remote or within reach.
