Hi everyone,

Is anyone else of the mind that iTunes 7 is hideous?
I've re-installed iTunes 6.0.5 because I can't stand the interface change in iTunes 7...

Well, if it was stable, I might like it more. Right now I have a whole bunch of missing album artwork I need to go get to enjoy the new view!

It's lacking the ability to run the Visualizer in the window (did I miss something?), apart from that it's working fine here. The interface is much cleaner and I love the new views.

Just activate the Visualize (from the View menu) and it will run in the window. You can use ⌘F to toggle fullscreen.

What's academic about it?

Pedantry has to do with learning, not aesthetic preference.

In fact, I'm the one being pedantic here.

i'm not crazy about the gui, but...
as a shapeshifter user, am just waiting for updated themes.

as an APP, i like it.
am having a graphics & text-based relationship with music, for the first time in years.
got a lot of covers from the amazon art widget, and google (ie artist pics where i couldn't find a cover).

so, for me...

You see the "or" in the definition? "Pedantic" is not limited to learning.

I would love it if it weren't buggy. Its not ready for release, this is a beta at best.

And I hate they dicontinued the ability of iTunes 4.9 to use the iTunes Music Store. iTunes 7 is meant for newer hardware with the CPU and RAM power to drive the app. Given the number of legacy G4 machines out there there is no reason to drop support for older versions of iTunes that run in X.3 and ONLY want to buy music and not movies or video.

I like a lot of the new features and improvements such as the video playback, but I'm not too crazy about all of the UI changes.

Some of the UI is pretty nice but other parts I don't like as much (black glass highlight in the source list for example) and the way they had to move things around to implement the new View Changer button. Like the enhanced podcast (chapters) are now in the menu bar, the burn/refresh/browse buttons were moved to the bottom, equalizer button removed and only in the menu bar, etc.

I am sure Apple will keep updating things however. With iTunes 5 they had a glossy LCD display which some people didn't like and they changed it in the next version of iTunes. Instead of crying some of you guys should give decent feedback on what you don't like about the interface.

Easy. Planned obsolescence. They want you buying newer hardware.

A lot of the new features are excellent. I really like the new ways to browse music, that works extremely well for me. I like the 'download' window, you can see what's coming in. I love the new iPod integration.

All in all, it works for me.

The new cover artwork views are simply AMAZING. I could never go back to iTunes 6.

Regarding the interface, I actually like it. Sure there is room for improvement, but I really don't see the big deal.

I DO NOT agree.

Are there bugs? Yes... it's a .0 release with significant updates. If you were perfectly happy with your last version of 6, you should have stuck with that until they ironed out the bugs. I'm running 7 on 4 systems, and things are working VERY well. I haven't had a single issue.

Instead of upgrading to 7 from 4.9, why not go to 5?

I'm running iTunes 7 on my 733 tower from 2001 and it runs very well. That's over 5 years... how far back do you think they should go?

If the version runs in X.4, which iTunes 4.9 does the iTMS should support it.
I haven no idea what correlation you are trying to draw between the age of your tower and iTunes support because the issue is irrelevant since Tiger and Panther are still supported for all those computers.
My complaint on that end is there is no reason to drop iTMS service for music since there is no benefit or need for it. If I was talking about buying movies I would agree but it it worked yesterday why break it for others use today.

Haha. You've been shot down so hard. Seems that someone else were the one who thought it meant something else than what they thought it meant.

I love the icon and UI. What's wrong with the icon? Other than it's now a blue note instead of green it looks the same to me, plus I love the color Blue.

iTunes7 has worked great for me and no mem leaks or scratchy sounds. The only thing I don't like is the missing album work. I'm sure Apple will get all the issues squared away.

I like the icon, the UI is OK but could be better. The left sidebar bugs me the most. But I really like the improvements, every time I do something new I scratch my head and wonder what I was missing out on.

Maybe the grammar of the sentence tripped you up? You're wrong.

Wrong.

OED: Oxford English Dictionary Sign In

American Heritage: pedantic. The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language: Fourth Edition. 2000.

Roget's: pedantic. Roget’s II: The New Thesaurus, Third Edition. 1995.

Dictionary-dot-com's array: pedantic - Definitions from Dictionary.com
(this is the only of the bunch where one definition [#2, dictionary.com source] comes close [no cigar], but only if you [again] misinterpret the use of "details")

even Wiktionary: pedantic - Wiktionary
(though, of course, if you really need one source out there to agree with your definitions, please edit!)

So again, acting as a pedant, I conclude: you're (all) wrong.

MANY things run in 10.4 (like old versions of iMovie, iPhoto, etc. etc.). Just because it runs on X.4 is meaningless. Apple doesn't need to support everything that runs on X.4.

I guess you don't remember saying

?

My point is, on 5+ year old hardware, I'm still able to use iTunes 7 will all the extra features.

My point is, you don't know that there is "no reason to drop iTMS service" for 4.9. You are guessing and making assumptions that Apple did it just to do it. My response is... why would Apple cut off a potential revenue source unless they had a good reason?

some observations:

takes a lot of re-loading of cd cover images...
happening for others?
am on a 1.33g powerbook.
i keep itunes open all the time;
seems when i wake from sleep, and go to my library (1900 songs), a lot of covers need to redraw...

also, just scrolling thru covers heated up the pb, and the fan just kicked in...

hmmmmmm....
