I know Tiger is far from being finished but I'm curious if you've seen any improvement in gaming using Tiger DP?

I'll be checking WoW in Tiger as soon as I'm done with downloading (75% done now)

Be sure to post both old and new FPS.

It's so funny reading posts about people trying to eek out as many FPS as possible for a game in beta... Especially when the Mac build is not even optimized for the Mac... hence why it runs fine on a G3.

Very very odd to me.

What's so funny/odd about it?

Just because it's beta doesn't always mean that it's not optimized yet.

Beside, I find it fun trying to find a way to boost FPS. There's nothing wrong with it

Maybe I don't really get your point.

It's not optimized, hence why there are drasitic FPS differences between hardware, including top end hardware having "horrible" FPS scores.

I just find it funny that people will go to great lengths to improve the beta testing experience. Examples include running it under Tiger when the platform for beta is 10.3.4; running out to buy the newest gfx card, nVidia 6800, just to eek out more FPS when the game hasn't even been tested by Blizzard on this card, etc.

I think it's funny... is that a problem?

Jeez...

Look at the thread topic, it didn't say "WoW in Tiger DP.. See any improvement?". WoW is just one of the several games I want to try on Tiger.

Stop being so petty, dude.

I'll test a few games later. So far I can tell Tiger is faster in all Quartz and OpenGL operations than Panther. I'm just about to do an Xbench test.

If they can make the game play smoother, then it will be more enjoyable for them to test it. If you don't think trying to optimize your experience is worth your time, feel free not to. Don't piss on others for the sake of pissing on them.. their actions have no effect on you.

WoW

I don't understand the attitude against people trying to get better performance in WoW.
I think the bottom line here is that I think it's funny to be buying new hardware, upgrading to a beta OS, etc, to improve the performance for a game in beta. What's even funnier is that they'll be disappoined and whine when it still doesn't perform as it should.

/shrug

I guess what I'm trying to say is don't get your hopes up just yet. WoW is far from being finished or optimized.

Some people like their video games.
I'm guessing you have no idea if I like mine.

If they can make the game play smoother, then it will be more enjoyable for them to test it.
I like this quote too. As far as I'm aware, testers were picked based on their hardware, not a beta OS or uber unreleased hardware. Sometimes testing isn't very enjoyable but those are the ropes. Right now there is a nasty bug in either a driver or the game which makes playing sometimes painful, but we manage.

I obviously have different viewpoints on testing then some of you and if that makes me a bad guy so be it. I happen to do this type of thing for a living.

I don't really care (I rarely play computer games, I still think you were rude); the topic wasn't initially about WoW, so when you generalize about graphics cards and beta software, people are going to assume you mean the beta 10.4, also.

10.4 has significant enhancements to graphics, etc...so it would be interesting to see what it does, not just to WoW.

I saw this thread, saw that it had 11 replies, and expected at least ONE account of WoW under 10.4...
but no, all I found was bickering and nonsense
Be happy.

Erm, not only did he mention of testing WoW under 10.4, someone replied ooooo that'd be great, let me know...

10.4 will hopefully bring great things to the Mac platform, in at least 9 months...

Sorry I'm not all warm and fuzzy for you.

Warm & fuzzy annoys me...and so does obnoxiousness. If you wanted to discuss WoW and misconceptions, tell it like it is (no "I find it funny..." nonsense).

Oh, and the topic and initial post discuss gaming, the first mention of WoW was just an example.

Now do any Tiger people want to report back any comparisons between any game so this thread can move along now?

Since this is off topic already how do you all have Tiger to know the differences?

Most of us don't know the differences firsthand, but know what to expect. Many would like users of the Developer Preview to affirm those expectations.

"Users of the Developer Preview" are either under NDA and cannot talk about it or illegally pirated the software. So nobody can legally tell you. Asking people to break the law for something as trivial as this sucks.

I'm more of an Uptown Waterloo cat than a downtown Kitchener cat.

Actually, I think there have been some threads in the political lounge that have topped this one in childishness and uselessness, buuuut who's keeping track? (Apparently me?)

(finishes water)

Actually, I would just call them impatient. I think people are jerks who get uptight about something that's already being actively discussed elsewhere on the forums. If you want to fight your battle for the good of the NDA, go to all of the other threads, too.

I was mostly just asking for the thread to go back on topic, I could care less about these numbers

Now run along little one, fight the good fight; we don't want the world exploding now with all these rambunctious youths evaluating pre-release software! It's murder, I tell you! Lock 'em all up!

I cannot deny these allegations!

No, man. I don't mind the premise of the thread at all. I think it'd be interesting to know what some people have to say about Tiger's performance in regards to games so far. There've been other people who've messed up the thread with the usual pre-release software bickering on both sides.

Games will be faster in tiger, but probably crash like nuts if they work at all.

How much is this thing supposed to be per month? (WoW).

Fair enough. It'd be great for this thread just to get locked and someone to begin it anew. Other than the obvious "because they're under NDA," I wonder why no one's posted any info in regards to the original question?
