I find it quite strange that people are more outraged that he was flying a flag outside his house than the fact that vandalism took place.

I also find it strange that most Europeans would never fly a flag except at sporting events. And it's usually not their countries flag. But I haven't made fun of them for it. So maybe some could take a lesson from us backwards Americans.

Agreed. It doesn't happen often, but my opinion of this forum dropped a notch. I'd honestly thought it had stabilized at a very modest level.

Look. It's not about the flag, it's about the person.

He asked for advice on how to catch the culprits. I offered mine.

I take no pleasure that my advice may have disappointed him... or you.

Well, maybe just a little.

Thanks for all the amusing posts. I can't say I expected to get any serious replies.
I just wanted to allow the clowns in here to show themselves for what they are.

You won't believe, but purchasing a new flag is probably the best solution! omg

You know, posting flame-bait was probably not the best way to gain respect. I hope the whole incident was not a fabrication.

Most likely it wasn't an American flag.

If it was an American flag, someone would have stolen it. Since it was torn, it's probably a confederate flag or some other flag hanged outside just to pissed off the neighbors. This is probably something ghost_flash would do as shown by this thread.

I don't know how it is in other Scando countries, but in the neighborhood of Bergen, Norway, that my parents lived in, almost *everyone* had a Norwegian flag flying in the garden.

Yes... My grandfather and grandmother (on my mother's side) used to raise the Swedish flag (they lived in Gvle, north of Uppsala and Stockholm) on the "usual" particular occasions: but I don't think they felt that thing to be something particularly "patriotic" - rather, simply a shared custom, without any sense of superiority towards other countries...

You aren't implying my flag display being meant as a message of superiority to other countries do you?

It was, and will be on display to support our troops in Iraq.
Do any other countries do this? Well, I suppose if anyone in Spain displayed their flag now it would be torn down as well, eh?

I don't know one person that flies the flag because of that reason.

Proud that they live in the US? Sure.

Some sort of pretentious superiority? naw.

No. I knew kids that did things like this for no reason. Just because they were bored.

Of course then there are the anti-us flag hating hippies that do such a thing on purpose.

But to say he had to have pissed someone off for this to have happened is stretching it a bit.

You must have meant this as a compliment.

If you were just asking what flag it was, it would usually be worded something like this.

What flag did you have displayed?

Based upon this post, I doubt the "flag ripping" ever occured. The sole purpose of this thread, as evidenced by the statement "I just wanted to allow the clowns in here to show themselves for what they are." was to be flame-bait

Your doubts have been duly noted and disposed of, just like my American Flag.
Even if it was made up, which it wasn't, does that justify all those vitriolic posts
prior to the one of mine that you quoted?

I think that people have always been doing hateful acts. It is just more publicized and discussed today.

Buy a Gadsden flag. Then buy a bunch of rattlesnakes. Put em all in a bucket that falls off of the roof when they try to take the flag. Then at least you can say you warned them.

Is it wrong to hate someone that vandalizes your property? Maybe I should love them, or negotiate with them. Hey, I won't fly the American flag, if you won't vandalize and steal from my property....

I didn't leave out the type of flag FCOL. If I had put the American Flag would it have made a difference?

Whatever. I'm proudly flying the American flag once again. Bring it on.

Well, I've been in this neighborhood for over 2 years, and more and more Mexican families are moving in.... One house, seven families. One family just moved across the street, and they have at least 5 cars / trucks in the driveway every day on average, sometimes more. No problems till they moved in. On the other hand, there is a nice caucasian family next to them that suddenly have had police visits almost every day now for the past few weeks. I tend to lean towards the family that has been getting visits from the police. I made the comment however because I have seen people of the southern (MEXICO) persuassion crossing my lawn in front of my door. Some so bold as to pause and look in my home. Pretty rude, and nosy.

I was referring to this as it seems to me that it may have been a crime based on hatred of caucasians.

I'm moving as soon as I can. Going to sell the house to a nice Mexican family.

I posted this to get advice, and it turns out it was a bonus just to reveal the clowns in these fora for what they are. It served two purposes. Do you have a problem with that? Too bad.

I can see a silver lining in an otherwise ruined thread. Nobody seemed to have a related experience to give advice. I got a few funny jokes, which I expected, as well as all those who disagree with my politics and religion to swarm at the chance to give me one on the chin. Oh, and did they swarm. You would have thought Wal-Mart was having another sale on video machines for $20 each...

Actually, I can kinda feel where you're coming from with this, some Mormons stole my gargoyles I had sitting on my porch (little gargoyles about 8" tall"). Man, was I pissed. Who would stoop so low as to steal a man's statuary?

And yes, I know it was them... they left me a religious tract where one of them had been sitting. Scumbags!
