I have been a Safari user and just started playing around with Firefox. I transferred my bookmarks from Safari with some freeware from Version Tracker and that was flawless.

One apparent advantage is that the "organize Bookmarks" command in Firefox opens up a separate Bookmark organization web page that leaves the current web page untouched and open in its window. Safari (at least my version) transforms the current webpage into the panel for organizing bookmarks, something I always found less than ideal.

Other than that, is there a general sense that Safari is still preferred by most? Or does Firefox have, or lack, neat features?

Safari is excellent for the average user. For the advanced user, Firefox's extension system allows for nearly unlimited customization.

If you don't find that you need the functionality that extensions provide, I would probably suggest you stick to Safari.

I agree.

I use Firefox because of the Adblock extension. I also like the ability to search arbitrary sites (Amazon, IMDb, Wikipedia, eBay, Google Maps, etc.) from the search bar in Firefox, but that's not a dealbreaker. Without Adblock, I'd stick with Safari.

With pithelmet in Safari, you can block the same ads. And your can easily customize the menu bar, even adding menulets that let you adjust the size and position of the browswer bar, which is quite helpful.

I use FF when I have to work on a peecee but I still prefer Safari on the Mac side. Hopefully Safari 2.0 with Tiger will make it even better. Tha said, FF is a good app and worth keeping on eye on.

Firefox is more feature complete - there's no doubt about that. There are some important features missing from Safari. The thing is, though, Firefox just does not feel as good to use as Safari does. The other consideration is, since Safari is a centerpiece of Apple's software lineup, I know it's not going anywhere. Safari 2.0 looks quite promising, but if I were to switch browsers I would probably go to OmniWeb. Firefox will always serve as a backup.
