I'm working on a (faux) ad campaign for an energy drink. My target is 16-25 year olds- mostly male. My question for you is what magazines are you guys reading? For leisure, pleasure, technology. I have a small list in mind, but feel free to enlighten me. Think of the largest audience vs obscure stuff.

If I pick up a magazine it's usually Scientific American or Car and Driver/Motor Trend.

I have been known to flip through a Maxim here or there as well.

Stuff may as well be removed from the list, as they've hit their last issue, but I put my vote in anyways.

And my list not on the list...

Wired
Popular Science
National Geographic
I have returned... 2020 MacBook Air - 1.1 GHz Quad-Core i5 - 16 GB RAM

I subscribe to other mags too, but those are the most widely distributed.

I've seen way too many "odd" ads in American Cinematographer-PLEASE don't market even a fake energy drink there! It's bad enough to find "natural tobacco" cigarette and "pheremone female attractant" ads in PC Magazine...

Which magazines you choose should be related to WHICH 16-25 demographic you're interested in. Auto enthusiasts? The demographic formerly known as "Metrosexuals"? Photography buffs? Computer nerds? Reenactors (and what particular period they're reenacting)? The one universal about the 16-25 demographic is that they are not at all unified.

I like the suggestions of Wired, Mens Health, Road & Track, Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Sports Illustrated, and Playboy. Note that a LOT of people outside that age range read these magazines-I've been a Playboy subscriber for longer than the top age of that demographic! (And yes, I do read the articles-eventually. ) Maxim, Stuff, Rolling Stone and other "culture" related magazines are a good idea too. But watch out for spreading yourself too thin if you're actually more interested in 16-25 year olds that are technically savvy or those that are interested in fitness activities-you don't want to advertise in Popular Science if you want to attract business from a Runner's World reader.

Are you sure you meant American Cinematographer?

I've had a subscription for years and I only see film industry relevant ads in there. Like academy award consideration ads, film ads, dolly/crane ads, etc.

BTW;
the magazines I listed are publications I read on a monthly basis, not necessarily magazines I would recommend kerivit to "advertise" in.

Yes, though to me, "any" non motion picture related ads in American Cinematographer are too many. I've seen a few, mostly in the back of the magazine, that were way off subject (which is puzzling since this is a professional journal), but they were jarring because they were such poor fits. I can't remember which issues I saw them in, but one was "non-film" makeup related and pretty obviously so. Not as bad as cigarette ads in PC Magazine, but not what I expect to see in a journal.

Not too many magazines these days. Not when I get most of my information from the net.
The mags I do read occasionally are newsweek, time, sports illustrated and macworld.

Oops, I'm sorry. Take one vote off of other. I didn't read your post quoted above until after I voted. I'm not within the 16-25 age group.

When I was between 16 and 25 I read:
Popular Mechanics
Popular Science
Mac User
Mac World
Popular Photography
Popular Electronics
US News & Report
Playboy

Hey, it was before Al Gore invented the Internet, I had to have something to read.

Energy drink?

What about the mags which cater for the club-goers. You know, the folks who take an e and dance all night?

Age doesn't mean you can't play along. Suggestions welcome. This particular drink just seems to have a niche with college kids and such because it is only $1. Obviously, anyone can drink it. I'm thinking edgier, trendier mags?
