Well, it's been roughly 2 months since MWSF where UT2003 was demoed, so where is it? It should be available this month or April.

Last I heard they're waiting for a new OS update to ship before they kick out the demo.

If you can pre-order, that's great news...I'm hoping it ships very soon as well, although I'm not much for paying full price on it...might hafta wait for a eBay'ed version

Hmmm...March 5, 2003, that would certainly be after the 10.2.4 update, so what are they waiting on? If they're building it in 10.2.4, why would the next update be needed?

Hmmm... let's see... maybe there are still lingering issues in 10.2.4?

Possibly, but no OS's are ever perfect. Windows, Linux, and Mac always receive updates, patches, service packs, etc. once the final version is released. I dunno, I just hope the can deliver soon!

Why is it so hard to accept the likelihood that there may be issues with parts of the OS, like OpenGL, that are keeping them from releasing the demo? It's not that hard of a concept to grasp. UT2K3 uses some fairly advanced D3D features which have just recently had equivalent extensions added to Mac OS X's OpenGL. Support for the S3TC texture compression extensions to OpenGL were just added with the 10.2.3 system update. There was no way that they were going to release UT2K3 without that support. I believe the S3TC support for precompressed textures was the big feature UT2K3 was waiting for. There are a number of new extensions that were added with both the 10.2.3 and 10.2.4 OS X updates so there's a good chance that there may still be some missing features and/or other issues with OpenGL.
I don't think anyone would want to release a piece of software without it working on a publically available version of an OS with the proper fixes.

Oh totally agreed, I was only commenting on the game, not saying that they should get off their rumps and put it on the shelf already or anything like that. They're well enough along for my peace of mind...showed a demo at the expo in Jan., and have ads in MacWorld & MacAddict...that's plently assurance that it'll be out soon enough.

You know this has absoulutely nothing to do with the topic, but that women/cop with the funky color hair at the end of Jackie Chan's Who Am I is really really pretty.

Yes, yes she is. Too bad she can't act worth. Oh well, you only need to watch Jackie Chan movies and not listen to them. He has one of his best fight scenes in that movie. I think here names Michelle Ferre.

Yeah, I'd hit it...too bad she's poor. She has only ever done this one movie, 5 years ago.
You just made me pop in that movie. It's my favorite Jackie Chan flic. Mostly for the rooftop fight scene. Watching it now
That other chick isn't bad either, she can be my chauffeur anytime.

Hadta revive this topic by saying that I just got my latest issue of MacAddict magazine, and in it there's an interview in which Peter Tamte of MacSoft stated that after releasing MoO III would come Dungeon Seige, directly followed by *gasp* Unreal Tournament 2003 for the Mac!

That means there's just one more game for them to release before we'll see UT2003! Sweet!

Ummmm... what's Peter Tamte and Macsoft got to do with Unreal Tournament 2003? UT2003 is being ported by Epic in-house. Macsoft has nothing to do with it, do they?

As far as I've heard, UT2003 is waiting on a MacOS X system update.

I personally like it a lot more. The single player campaign has the scalability to get very difficult (the original UT was very easy), the graphics are very much improved, the weapons are somewhat different (hard to get used to as a big UT player), and multiplayer is clean (not buggyish). I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me.

I love the PC version. Kickin' graphics, some really neat maps, great "speed"...
And they made the Flak Cannon better.

I'd imagine the Mac version will be just as good, and probably more optimized (anyone know if they're programming in multiprocessor support?).
Be happy.

This hasn't been announced, but it's doubtful really. The original release of the game will most likely NOT feature SMP support because of how finalized the game already is, and the fact that the features wasn't seen in MacWorld in Jan. However, just as with Medal of Honor, it's possible that we'll see a future patch to enable SMP support.

I highly doubt that. Medal Of honor was built with the Q3 engine that was built with SMP in mind. The mac Mohaa was just causing bugs and crahses at first when enabling smp. The UT2003 engine was not built with any smp support in mind..

When Giants was ported, OmniGroup added SMP support and the bulk of the porting took about a month (with a longer beta period I believe). But apparently that engine was relatively easy to adapt. There's no guarantee that UT2K3 would be easy to adapt.

The latest snippet of info says the demo has been handed over to MacSoft for testing and 'packaging'. MacSoft will distribute the demo, collect the feedback, hand it over to Epic, who'll fix the actual game, give it back to MacSoft for packaging and so on and so on.

Still, close we are.

At LAN parties for sure. I'd pick a fight with a PC player if I realize that Mac UT2k3 doesn't support netplay with PC UT2k3.

I was able to beat the pants off of PC users in UT... I don't think I'll have a problem in UT2003, once I get some time on UT2003.
