I know I can clone through the disk utility, but I am looking for a software that will make incremental backups, and they must be bootable and as good as CCC. I have heard of some others, but most seem to not make as good of a backup from what I hear Any thoughts, or inside news on when CCC will be updated?

I too sought out a replacement for CCC, since it hasn't been updated yet. Apparently there's a half-baked soultion if you run it from the Terminal, but I wasnt completely comfortable with that. From a friends suggestion i tried out this program called Synk, and couldnt be happier. For some reason I could never get CCC to synchronize deletions on my backups, and that was a little irritating. I haven't tried any of the other's so im not qualified to speak on them, but I would consider Synk to be ,as good or better, than CCC. It's not as inexpensive as CCC but it comes with a 30 day trial period, so you can see how you like it.

SuperDuper is a great program. It will make bootable clones, and if you buy it and pay the shareware fee it will make incremental backups (copy only changed files) and allow you to run complex scripts to customize your backups, too.

I am a VERY happy customer.

I log in under root and CCC works fine. While I typically don't use root, I think allowing CCC to run and backup my stuff works fine and I can live with doing that until the new version of CCC hits the streets.

You can use Disk Utility to clone a disk to another. You can also use DU to create a disk image of your hard drive. Might work until CCC is out for Tiger.

There's a little freeware app called Pseudo which lets you easily run another program as root, without messing with the terminal or even having to enable root. Works like a charm with CCC.

Another vote for SuperDuper. Only problem is it's not free.

Well, the simple clone drive function is. To get all the other stuff you have to pay.
