Help. I came in this morning - tried to log in and the computer was not responsive. I then reboot, and got the great "No system found" blinking icon.

I have booted to the install disk, ran disk utility and NO HARD DRIVE IS THERE! I then ran the Firmware test, and again, No hard drive can be found.

WHAT IS GOING ON! Any ideas?

Thanks
B

Can you hear it spin up when you start the machine? There's about 5 different things that could be wrong, here.

Corrupt directory, mechanical failure, dead ATA bus, bad cable(s).

There was absolutely no spinnage what so ever.. However, I did a complete shut down and let it sit for about 10 minutes, and now it works. Go figure... God I have to get better about backing up..

Thanks for your response!

If the very first thing you did when it rebooted wasn't a full, complete, verified backup, then don't come crying back here in a week when it happens again. If it wasn't spinning up at all, then it's probably mechanical. I don't know enough about the guts of powerbooks to figure what might be the likely culprit. Could be the drive itself, the power connector cable, the power supply, the motherboard, who knows.
