That's pretty neat, does it actually act as more than a hub, so that the buttons/switches do stuff

Question is, what in the world would you do with it?

Self-destruct stoopid.
(Actually, it's also a USB 2.0 hub, so you can connect up all your USB devices before you self-destruct.)

Hmmm, well ya it is a hub, but sorta pointless and pricey.
Still think it is funny on a nerd level though.

Eyes and mouth.
I stuck the wrong power adapter into it once though and I think I burnt that part out. Now it won't power devices, unless I plug it into a Firewire port with power. Otherwise still works fine though.

If the switches and buttons and all could actually be used to trigger events on your computer I'd totally buy one.

it was on gizmodo the other day, i think they said it would play a wav file or something on your computer, i imagine it wouldnt be difficult to customize to make it do something else.

If it can trigger playing a wave file, it could trigger just about anything else triggerable. (<-- word?)
That doesn't mean the software would actually be available though.

Theoretically if you were using boot camp, you could rig a button to set the windows disk as the startup disk and reboot the computer...

Hmmm... It looks like it may not be a powered hub.

It certainly looks awesome, but if the buttons can't act as triggers then it's fairly useless. (I know it says with sound....but is that just from the device itself like some cheap toy?)

That would be cool if linked to some software that screwed your HD as much as possible in a short amount of time. IE, a real self-destruct button. Would be quite popular to the kids who run movie servers or something when the feds knock on the door.
As for me I will stick with verbal commands for self-destruction. Code 0, 0, 0, Destruct 0...

Just as I thought: a small toy with lame sound effects that's also a USB hub. Yawn.

If it actually sends any USB signals to the computer, then I'd imagine that USB Overdrive would be able to assign it to do stuff.
On the other hand, if all it does is make the light flash and make that sound play on the hub itself, then it wouldn't be very useful.

Someone with four powered devices, apparently, and someone who likes plugging flash drive, mice, and iPod directly into the computer.
