I've got to make sure a clients set up is good for shooting and editing 4K video.

Current set up is a 2013 trashcan Mac Pro with a 4TB SSD and 64GB RAM
This seems like a good base and there's not a whole lot of ways to go on this but I'm thinking GPU?

Currently external storage is a Drobo 5D with 20TB of drives in it. Its connected via thunderbolt but data transfer rates are disappointing although the internal SSD is used to hold current work and files.

Any thoughts/experience of the best way to go. May retire the Drobo into general storage but would need compelling improvement is attached storage to do so.

What do y'all think?

For editing, what generally matters is RAM and I/O. That looks sorted.

Once we get into motion graphics and the like, it depends on their workflow. I only know After Effects, which is CPU and RAM focused. If that’s what they’re doing, they look set on that front, too. Edit: though, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend After Effects for that computer. Boring details upon request.

I get 100 megabytes/second read and 75 write on my networked Synology. That’s fast enough for me when it comes to “offline” storage.
