Where do they sell a GTI Diesel??
Is that how VW calls a Golf model in the US?
GTI is one certain Turbo engine - if you want Diesel, you'll have to get a different Golf model (for example a GT)!

I think he means a GTD.

Is there shift lag when you're driving it like with other autos or does it switch gears like someone driving a manual trans would? Do you have to let off the gas a little before it shifts I mean?

No lag at all - that's the whole purpose of the DSG. Plus you have the flappy paddles if you want to play in manual.

Test drive one. Put it into "sport" mode and floor it. See what happens.

Ahh, alright...I'd prefer the Diesel as well (the 170hp version...not as much fun as the GTI though)!

It's the fastest shifting transmission in the world, shifts are under 8 milliseconds. There is two clutches, one for gears 1 3 5 and another for 2 4 6, This means that when your in 1st the car has already engaged second gear with the other clutch so the the moment you "shift" your in the next gear (no torque converter = no loss of power). The DSG does the 0-60 in over half a second less than one of VW's race drivers can do it on the manual. Not to mention with the DSG you get the launch control which turns your launches from a dig from a chore to

I have DSG
I drove both and after driving a manual in all my previous 6 cars i was hard headed about staying with the "true" transmission... until i drove the DSG. You cannot argue with faster shifts, better acceleration, launch control.

I guess I would need to try it out. The car I've been driving is automatic and I miss manual trans. I don't think the flappy thing is going to satiate that desire.
