The ROKR (rocker) was at the Moto event but not mentioned. And notice the iPod-like scroll wheel.

Looks nice, RAZR style cut keypad, and looks like a front facing camera on the top left, so its probably a 3G video calling phone.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Is that the headphone port on the left?? or is it a lock to stop the demo phone being stolen?

I hope it is a range of iTunes phones, and that the range of ROKR and iTunes phones are the same thing, not just the iTunes model shown above. Since I got my v620 flip phone, I'm converted to flips. It just stops the buttons from being pressed on the phone when I forgot to lock the keypad, (which I did a lot!).

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Don't all modern phones have an option to lock the keys after an idle period? o_O

I thought the same thing.

Never had a problem with that.

But then, if flip phones work for him, I'm dandy with that, too.

Yes they probably do have an auto lock, but I either never found it or couldn't be bothered setting it because it was more of a hassle to unlock it when I didnt need it locked. Or I didn't bother locking it and just put it in my pocket. Either way, my pocket made phonecalls quite often all by itself, and its never happened with my v620.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Interesting phone, but obviously Apple would need to enhance it. Doesn't look all that Apple IMHO.

"MOTONOW -- We're sitting in the front row waiting for Motorola's CEO Ed Zander to begin speaking at MOTONOW and on stage are what appears to be several new models. One of the new models has a iPod like scroll wheel... It's black, has a keypad like the SLVR and appears to be a 3G handset.

Update: It's the Motorola ROKR family and CEO Ed Zander says the iTunes launch is not today. The ROKR does not have iTunes on board but it is indeed a music phone (it was actually powering the intro music to the event). Few details are available on it as it was whisked away by a Motorola staffer immediately after Ed Zander's presentation."

The black face certainly makes the click wheel stand out.

That better be a slider, or texting is going to be impossible.

Yes, most do a button (mine's the answer call button) and *. I dunno about other phones but my Nokia 6630 can also have a timer so it locks after a period of time it's not in use.

They keypad looks similar to the Razr, etched into the pad. Notice the white back casing, ala iPod.

I don't think the use of white is necessarily "ala iPod"

If it was ala iPod the back would be chrome that scratches easily.

Texting blows.

Nothing personal.

It's a phone, talk on it.

If you want to type, send an email. (yes there is a huge difference between a text message and an email)

Texting is about as useful and efficient as a tablet pc. (But….I suppose you’re gonna tell me you can scrawl notes faster than you can type them.)

I don't think they have 3 in the US. That would be quite nice though, a 3g iPod phone in a small form factor...... we can always dream!

Indeed, there is.

I can write an sms on the train, the bus, walking down the street, during a short breather at work, at a red light, wherever.

Huge difference from requiring a computer and an internet connection.

Some of us, believe it or not, put available technology to appropriate and sensible use.

Hello, your time capsule has arrived. Ready to return you to 1955. Anyway, I guess mobile and cordless phones blow as well?

SMSes are great for short messages. I have some templates set up for common ones (such as "on my way" and "in a meeting". I use my mobile more for SMSes than calls on some days.

And for this, we thank you.

hmmm....... thats maybe not the best idea.

Yeah theres about 11 of us in the county, or so it seems.

Usually I find myself more annoyed with people texting because they usually cant do anything else while they are texting.

Ever been behind someone in a line who is in the middle of a test message? 90% cant stop until they are done.

Maybe I'm just jaded, since here in new jersey, everyone is pretty much a jackass.

Jersey, go to Asia or Australasia or Europe or the Middle East and you'll see that SMSing is huge. The US has been slow to adopt it but it really can be a time-saver.

Nah, sms is actually very quick once you've got the hang of it, and it's a convenient way to communicate when talking isn't.

I've been getting into SMS/MMS quite a bit lately. I hate doing it on a phone with the numeric keypad, but using a keyboard like on the Pocket PC/Treo is a dream.

This I can see.

But here, all I encounter is the clackity clack of fake nails on some jersey girl who is chewing gum like a grazing cow, texting her boy to ask what "some hoe" did to him, on a numeric friggin keypad.

Despite their utterly nasty, hoarse, cigarette voices I'd almost rather that they talked (yelled) on the phone. Because at least then, myself and the others around this monstrosity, can at least make fun of them out loud.

Or.....it might be that I hate new jersey more than usual right now.

really i want to know when you will be able to get just data service from someplace like cingular.
