I'm looking for a terminal command or something I can make an Automator action for to disable / turn off the power to a Core Duo MacBook's Superdrive. Asleep or awake, it makes random drive access noises (the normal wake/power-on noise, except outside those parameters).

I'd open it up and reseat it (if that's the cause), but I don't have the time right now. A command or script to turn it off would be a nice workaround until I can dig into it.

What are you doing when the drive makes these noises?

Mine makes a noise when I start my Boot Camp partition from Parallels or when I open Disk Utility. It could be something like this that is trying to access or checking the drive and causing it to make that noise.

Doing nothing with it. Basically like this thread on Apple's boards:
Apple - Support - Discussions - Empty drive, repeated eject noise ...

I found a method that involves removing a kext (System/Library/Extentions (IODVDStorageFamily.kext) from its folder, but I'd rather not have to keep rebooting every time.

Unless there's a way to make the system reload these things if placed back in the folder?

I'm sure you can manually load and unload kexts. I'll look into it next time I can.
