Hi,

I've recently been given the opportunity to try out an Alltel USB air card. It works on my XP computers, haven't tested the Vista one yet, and it won't work on my Mac. I'm only interested on getting it running on OS X right now.

It seems to be recognized, it just won't pick up a signal. It's in the same spot as the XP computer that will.

I'd like to get this up and running, as its infinitely better than my satellite Internet. Faster, NO download/upload limits!!!!!!!! and cheaper at $60 a month. A friend says it'll even be better for gaming than my satellite Internet.

It appears to be the UTStarcom UM175. Software installed correctly, works with PPC Mac's, Tiger, etc...
I have returned... 2020 MacBook Air - 1.1 GHz Quad-Core i5 - 16 GB RAM

Hi,

I'd had the same problem with UM175 in iBook G4 (MaC OS 10.4.11), and the customer service once told me that this USB modem works only in Intel-based Mac....

Ok, it seems not really true since I am using it now!!

Just ignore the QuickLink Mobile software.
Go Apple menu - Location - Network Preferences..
Configure "PantechUSB modem" - click PPP setting
Account name is your phone number (assigned to your USB card) @alltel.net
password is alltel
telephone number is #777
Then click "dial now" or "connect".
The Internet connect software will be open, then click "connect" again.

Going to the apple menu to open network preference then connecting internet is only way for me to get connected.
The QuickLink Mobile software still says it can't find any WWAN devices, but I am able to get online by this way.

Hope this helps...
