I ordered an iPod Touch that will be receiving in mid January and I cannot help myself but to be curious. How are the messenger services on the iTouch? I mean, can I be online and still use other apps, or will it close when I switch apps?

Thanks in advanced,
Hg+

you're gonna have to wait for PUSH notification on third party apps.

So only Apple apps are using the PUSH system?

Only Mail, iPod, and the phone itself can currently operate in the background.

However, fear not: A useful background operation mode with notification services via a dedicated Apple server has been firmly announced by Apple and will be released as part of a software update in September 2008!

No, you're not missing anything - well, not more than everybody else who's running an iPhone or iPod touch.

Basically, no one knows when it will happen. It went from a small delay, to an "okay, well at least they are waiting until they KNOW it works," to a "where the hell are my push notifications," and when they finally come out it will be "oh. they're here. well. that's nice."

So that leaves me with forcing the messenger to run as a background process *sigh*
